This is undoubtedly an important issue & huge sympathies to this writer for what she has experienced but really - 'a group who menstruate'?
And

'Talking to other people (I use the term people as not only women experience periods and hormonal pelvic pain. For too long trans men and non-binary people have been left out of the conversation and out of consideration'

Like, collectively?

FemaleAndLearning · 29/03/2022 20:12

Apart from using the word group of menstruates (women?). The article does use women in the subtitle:
"One in 10 women suffer from this painful condition but it takes on average 12 years to get diagnosed".
The bit about transmen and non binary is right at the end.

EarringsandLipstick · 29/03/2022 20:18

Yes, the title is written by the subeditors, so it will.

The article is by the woman who is affected by endometriosis.

'Any group who menstruates' avoids saying the word women - who it is that menstruate - and feels jarring.

A group cannot menstruate unless the group possesses a collective female reproductive system. These people torture the language.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 29/03/2022 20:22

For too long trans men and non-binary people have been left out of the conversation and out of consideration

Non binary is very recent made up nonsense and pre tik tok there were very few actual transmen.
They aren't 'left out of the conversation' because they are still female so women still applies to them.

Like a mischief of magpies?

A flamboyant of flamingos?

A marvellous of menstruators?

tabbycatstripy · 29/03/2022 20:29

‘A marvellous of menstruators?’

Star
Helleofabore · 29/03/2022 20:30

a group who menstruate'?

Like Chimpanzees? So we can include Chimps in the group as well?

Awesome

Findwen · 29/03/2022 20:39

Maybe it is just missing some capitialisation, the paragraph makes total sense.

You see it is being told by Andrea Group --- Ms. A Group, a non-binary, trans woman.

"Whenever Ms A. group who menstruate get together to talk about their experiences with doctors you’ll invariably hear some of the same things being said again and again."

VelvetChairGirl · 29/03/2022 20:48

a group who menstruates, what on stage?

dont think I'd be booking tickets for the front row.

Helleofabore · 29/03/2022 20:53

I don’t know velvet if they have chimps telling us about their menstruation issues, I would be listening intensely.

Do chimps get endo too? Imagine that. That is bloody horrific to think.

But seriously, groups that menstruate also include some bats…. But I am not sure they can be trained in sign language to communicate.

This is the state of the language being used.

Deliriumoftheendless · 29/03/2022 20:57

Name a group who menstruates-

Our survey said..

tabbycatstripy · 29/03/2022 21:02

Duh.

FemaleAndLearning · 29/03/2022 21:08

A hut of menstruators maybe?

On a more serious not women need to familiarise themselves with the NICE guidelines. There is a very clear pathway in there for painful periods, I looked recently for my 14 year old. I know the burden should not be on us to do this but when GPs are so dismissive it should be a good tool.

EarringsandLipstick · 29/03/2022 21:37

@FemaleAndLearning

The article isn't really accurate either in terms of Irish healthcare. While endometriosis has not been well addressed at times, there are factual errors in her article, including that she can only get it in the UK.

They have never been left out of the conversation. TM or FNBP with any sense have always been invited to and able to access exactly the same services as all women. If they choose to deny reality and exclude themselves form those services, that's their choice. Why must we pretend that women are something unmentionable, because a few dislike being themselves so much?

Joolsin · 29/03/2022 23:29

I thought exactly the same when I read this article. Very clear on the healthcare issues around endo, the pill, dismissal by medics, etc faced by ... Women ... and then a squirmy fudge at the end.

timeisnotaline · 29/03/2022 23:31

Chimps probably do get endometriosis don’t they? Poor things!! Along with cancer etc (although that would be lower rates unless they are chimps who smoke, drink, eat processed foods and lead a sedentary life). I bet they don’t live to an old enough age on average for much Alzheimer’s though.
