An ‘all girls school’ donating to Stonewall - should I be worried?

I’m not sure what to think about this. It’s an independent school for girls. On their website one of the first things mentioned is ‘inclusivity’ and then this… ‘Meanwhile, we’re delighted at the success of our LGBTQIA+ Society – which included a student-led initiative raising over £2000 for the charity Stonewall through events…’ it then mentions a few events that they’ve done. It’s student led, so by the girls themselves.
What has worried me is the donation to stonewall. They do raise funds for a range of charities but I’ve never seen anything raised for DV, for example. Also that this has been mentioned before SEN or disability inclusion. Including ‘BAME’ was the first thing highlighted.
What are your thoughts please?

An LGBT+ society is absolutely fine. It’s the girls’ decision to donate £2k to Stonewall that has thrown me.

Is it part of the Girls Day School Trust?

I'd try to find a different private school teaching my daughter what I thought appropriate but that may be difficult.

Is the school unaware that Stonewall have been found misrepresenting the Law in their training? Is it aware of how lesbian and gay is now defined?

Yes

If it’s led by the students themselves I’d imagine there isn’t a lot you can do, other than perhaps ask the school what exactly they’re teaching the girls about gender (you could also include the link to Stephen Nolan’s series on Stonewall to back up your concerns). I think a lot of people who aren’t immersed in GC feminism still just assume that Stonewall = gay rights = good, and aren’t aware of the very sinister organisation it has now become.

WomanNoCis · 29/03/2022 23:48

I’m far from immersed in GC feminism and it’s only through a bit of reading here and there that I have an inkling of Stonewall’s darker side. But it is just that, an inkling. The girls probably don’t know either or if a few do will probably think it’s exaggerated. Teachers are not allowed to be political or express their own viewpoints so I’m guessing it’s a very difficult subject to discuss openly with teen girls who are concerned with being phobic or unkind. I’ve no idea how I can find out why they chose stonewall but what are the other LGBT+ charities they could have opted for?

DfE guidance for schools
“Materials which suggest that non-conformity to gender stereotypes should be seen as synonymous with having a different gender identity should not be used and you should not work with external agencies or organisations that produce such material”.

In my experience private girls' schools are an absolute hotbed of Stonewall enthusiasm. The demographic of white middle class girls who want to be cool and save the world while having no sense of what women have to lose is the perfect breeding ground for transactivism.

It's been said a few times on this board but some form of feminism in school could help girls. The privileged beliefs need a short sharp shock by a feminist like Karen Ingala Smith or Julie Bindel to squeeze out empathy for women in DV, prison and places where single-sex spaces are really needed.
