Would Lia Thomas be allowed to compete in the Paralympics if they identified as Disabled?

Paralympics categories are quite strict and dependent on detailed assessments. There has also been an issue with cheating and people getting themselves wrongly categorised in order to win - there was a radio documentary about it a year or two ago. At no point did the idea of "identifying" come up, it was just cheating!

No. Your level of disability has be independently assessed. It has nothing to do with feelings. If you’re not disabled enough you can be kicked out, even if your disability means you would never be able to compete in able bodied events.

There was a documentary about this a while ago featuring a runner with mild cerebral palsy. She was not allowed to compete as a para athlete.

To be honest, I already know the answer - NO. I was being sarcastic. It just baffles me, that Women's sport is not protected in the same was as the Paralympics. Why not?
