I saw this thread just now - www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4512118-School-is-encouraging-gender-neutral-instead-of-girls - and wondered if there is any equivalent pressure on teachers in schools with all boys.
Here is the salient part of the OP on that other thread.
I work at an all girls school and the senior team has advised that we try to stick to gender neutral language when we can e.g Good morning everyone / year 8 etc. The senior team said that if we use ‘girls’ without thinking and without malice intent then they will support us.
Now, we all know that there are far more examples of so called inclusive language applying to female words and phrases, e.g. birthing bodies, menstruators, people with cervixes, chestfeeding. We're not seeing many references to prostate havers and ejaculators. Is it the same in schools? Can staff in an all boys' school carry on saying 'Good morning, boys' or is that now discouraged?
Thanks in advance.
