I've just seen there is a free webinar this weekend. 19th March. I'm struggling to link, but easily goggleable. It looks like a good agenda.
Speakers include Tanya Carter, Stephanie Davies-Arai and Milli Hill.

I've also just seen on the women on boards website that there is a vacancy for the Advisory Board in Wales for Violence against Women. I don't have full membership to access the details, but they are probably discoverable.

Sex education in Wales
A webinar for educators and parents about biology, equality, and children’s well-being

We know that our children’s mental health is at an all-time low and that sexual harassment and homophobic bullying is rife in our schools, encouraged by easy access to pornography and our increasingly sexualised society.

The Welsh Government’s RSE legislation and code will do little or nothing to deal with these serious and growing problems.

Our webinar will address critically important topics which have been neglected, or indeed omitted, from the RSE legislation and code: topics such as safeguarding, pornography (and its easy access), sexual violence, gender stereotyping and supporting gender non-conforming children.

  • Tanya Carter on safeguarding and boundaries
  • Michael Conroy on sexual harassment, misogyny & masculinity
  • Stephanie Davies-Arai on inclusion, diversity, and and ideal RSE
  • Milli Hill on periods, puberty and body-positivity
  • Ali Morris on child exploitation, grooming, and prostitution
  • Stella O’Malley on bullying, belonging, and gender non-conforming kids
  • Christian Wilton-King on autism, disability, and inclusion

That's a wonderful line up.

foodfiend · 09/03/2022 17:13

Agree. The previous webinar from Merched Cymru was also very good, I found

talking about transition and detransition particularly interesting.

I've signed up - the speakers list is impressive.

For those of you not in Wales, our new RSE is mandatory and firmly ideological. Resources and training are Stonewall-approved and linked to organisations like The Proud Trust (of the infamous dice game) and Mermaids. The terms 'boys' and 'girls' are not used. It's all bloody 'pupils', 'students' and 'peer-on-peer' sexual harassment. Meanwhile 2 out of 3 girls in schools in Wales have experienced sexual abuse.

I responded to the RSE consultation to point out that they needed to talk to the real experts (like the speakers here) to deal with this crisis. They clearly couldn't give a toss.

Thanks for this, it's a brilliant line up - I've signed up.

The RSE in Wales is really worrying. I'm warning my kids already that they'll be taught ideological guff.

fifififty6 · 09/03/2022 22:55

Given the current state of child health in Wales and the mandatory RSE teaching in Welsh schools, this conference is a must for any parent who is concerned about the safeguarding and well-being of their children. Previously heard four of the speakers, so I’m anticipating some excellent presentations!

Olderbadger1 That wording is absolutely ridiculous - sounds like they've spent more time on that than actually coming up with something worthwhile!

Cuck00soup As the mother of teenage daughters I've just signed up so thanks for signposting. I've a few teacher friends who would be interested too but they're not on MN so I'll share the link.

It is quite frightening that all of this seems to be going on under the radar. I can quite believe that most parents haven't a clue.

Can those outside of Wales also join?

Olderbadger1 · 10/03/2022 11:48

See you there Nora!

Yes, it's open to anyone from anywhere - parents, educators, social workers, health professionals.

This gender ideology impacts on all our kids, not just in Wales.

There was a thread on here recently I think, a couple really upset about their child's school socially transitioning their child. I think it was in the Rhondda. The school guidelines seemed extraordinary to me. I felt it was like if a little boy told his teacher, I think I might be a g....., they'd have him in a skirt before he'd got to the end of the sentence. It absolutely beggars belief. I hope I'm misremembering and I'd welcome being corrected.

334bu · 10/03/2022 12:19

Maybe the publication of the interim Cass Review will have some impact here or is that just wishful thinking.

Cuck00soup · 10/03/2022 12:33

Noraephron I don't see why you couldn't sign up, it's online. I'm in England and was impressed with the speaker list to be honest.

@IcakethereforeIam Yes, there's a news story about the Rhondda case here: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-58305271
Safe Schools Alliance supported the family to legally challenge the Trans Inclusion Toolkit that Rhondda Cynon Taf Council were following. The same toolkit - from a template provided by a trans advocacy organisation - has been withdrawn in a number of other council areas following legal challenge in Oxfordshire.

As well as encouraging schools to socially transition children without parental consent, the toolkits tell schools that trans children should use the toilets, changing rooms and sleeping accommodation of their 'true gender', and that denying them this would not be lawful. This is a misrepresentation of the Equality Act.

More info on the Safe Schools Alliance website here:
