Women are still beautiful women after double mastectomy

Not normally one to share top-less images of women from tabloids but this article shows that women are still beautiful feminine women after their double mastectomies. Removing their breasts doesn't mean they are any less of a woman.

Such beautiful women. Thank you for sharing. And I am so glad to see this article.

FemaleAndLearning · 07/03/2022 23:10

Wow, she us amazing to raise awareness like this. And yes not having breasts doesn't mean you are not a woman.

I’m a flattie. There’s a big push, especially in the US atm, to normalise flat closure. I had to get rid of both boobs when after my cancer diagnosis I was found to be a BRCA gene mutation carrier, my ovaries had to go, too. I was told that reconstruction for me would be up to eight hours of extra surgery as I had to have all breast tissue removed. I was only a month out from chemo and couldn’t bear the thought of it. Reconstruction not only means lots more surgery, add to that increased infection risk, months of having skin expanders, the fact that the process sometimes can and does fail, and that you can’t guarantee that the end result will look decent. That’s all without even considering the problems you can have with fat transference or worse, BII, breast implant illness. All that hassle for a pair of pseudo-boobs with no nipples. I can get that with falsies.
I’m two years on now, and I have no regrets. My tits tried to kill me, I don’t miss them, and I still have no desire to replace them.

I'm interested by my own reaction to those photos- I'm averting my eyes slightly because she's so naked! I wouldn't avert my eyes from a topless man. Why am I so confuzzled by a topless woman, when she has no breasts? She looks so vulnerable- like bare feet walking through glass.

I recognise what great photos they are, how good she looks, as intended. I just have this sense of exposure I can't quite rationalise.

I do know what you mean. We're so used to seeing breasts on women's bodies that I also feel like my brain is telling me there's something slightly 'off'. An uncanny kind of feeling. But she does look beautiful.
DameHelena · 08/03/2022 11:33

Oh, meant to say I know what you mean about 'exposure' too. My brain is happier when looking at the clothed pics, I guess because it doesn't have to reconcile the idea of 'woman' with a flat bare chest.

picklemewalnuts · 08/03/2022 13:07

Yes. And still female so therefore 'naked' in a way that a male upper body is not. Despite the breasts (which we think of as the bits that should be covered) having been removed.

Yes, there is a weird 'should I look? is this OK?' thing going on!

Gorgeous amazing woman. Truly beautiful topless photos.

These are the type of photos the world should be celebrating instead of the pics of veneers, lip fillers, and bum lifts of celebs.

You understand that this woman had to have her breasts cut off because of breast cancer as opposed to having healthy breast tissue removed from young girls bodies because the internet told them they were boys?

So what are we holding on for?

334bu · 08/04/2022 07:43

Brave beautiful women.

Mysterioso · 08/04/2022 08:00

There is no test to fail to stop being a woman.
There is no test to pass to be a woman.
Born female, always female.
She's beautiful and I'm glad she found inner pride despite her tribulations.

Polyanthus2 · 08/04/2022 08:13

Sounds like she coudn't have the reconstruction she'd wanted because of an infection. So is now flat.
Not quite the same as being flat through choice.
As an older woman with heavy saggy boobs (i'm sure they grow and get heavier with age which would explain older women's sometimes huge pendulous breasts) I would definitely get rid of them if there was a risk of cancer.

NonnyMouse1337 · 08/04/2022 08:25

Yup, womanhood is not something that any man can participate in via cosmetics and surgery.
Breast removal due to cancer doesn't stop a woman from being a woman.

Best wishes to her, Flowerpotsnake and other women who have battled cancer and surgery. Wish all of you a long, happy cancer-free life Flowers

beattieedny · 08/04/2022 08:30

Beautiful pictures. I'm struck by how very young they are. Women in the prime of life, looking after families, up in their careers, busy, heart of their homes. Thank god and medicine and their spirit for their survival.

Why, are you coming back with something interesting to say?

I’ll not bother thanks.

Oh no, please don’t try to pretend life-saving surgery is the same as elective surgery by confused young women. Please don’t debate yourself more than you already have on other threads.

Congratulations to all women whose lives are improved or saved by surgery. Long life to you all!

I send good wishes to those who make bad choices too, and hope they can still find happiness.

Helleofabore · 08/04/2022 09:11

Why, are you coming back with something interesting to say?

I don’t think so from what we have seen so far.
