Recommendations for ED&I training providers

TheGirlInTheGreenDress · 01/03/2022 18:53

I have been tasked with finding a trainer/company to deliver a one hour ED&I CPD session for our company. Does anyone have any recommendations from personal experience? My reason for asking here is I’d like to hopefully ensure we don’t end up like some posters and end up with a trainer that’s been “Stonewalled”.

A bit of extra info:

  • Can be online or in person (West Midlands).
  • It’s for a company of around 50 people that does have a bit of a diversity problem - but the upper management don’t really see it.
  • It’s a white male dominated organisation in a white male dominated industry.

Any recommendations (or companies to avoid) are much appreciated! Thank you in advance

Have you thought of Victim Focus? I'm sure they could design something for you.

I'm interested in answers on this too! One to avoid: iHasco. Very focused on transgender ideology, very muddled.

Thank you. Shall investigate those.

Ann Sinnott from AEA was last year developing EDI courses and workshops - focussing equally on all the 9 protected characteristics.
From what I gather prices were reasonable too.

I had a look on their Twitter feed and they seem to very much have a 1) Critical Race theory bias (which is divisive imho and 2) promote LGBT orgs quite often who are anti-feminist

On their website they talk of the Equality Act, perhaps a question of them asking what advice they'd give to manage the conflicting demands of trans people with the characteristics of sex and religion in the workplace would be a good place to start @TheGirlInTheGreenDress

Oh God ^^ they are promoting Mermaids as a 'grassroots organisation' doing good work. Avoid avoid!

I know I already mentioned them, here's the link.

If they can't do it, then they may know a provider who can.

Yes, this is the gap in the market that was identified by her.

Erfan Daliri is one of the best value and most moving speakers I have ever heard. Erfandaliri.com

If I was still in the UK it is something I would be doing. With a small number of trusted contacts.

The AEA's interpretation of the Equality Act was thrown out of court as "wrong in law" which has rather damaged their credibility in this field.

Hasn't Simon Fanshawe (one of the founders of Stonewall) setup an EDI training company? Impeccable lineage for EDI work.

Also, for men, Michael Conroy's organisation might be good. He focuses on working-class boys, but has a lot of tools to work with men. And wonderfully GC.

I think she lost the 2nd part of her appeal, can't remember the technical details.

I have seen some of the materials however; they look solid to me. And I imagine any corporation worth their salt would have their lawyers give it a glance over as well. But if an EDI policy looks at all protected characteristics as an ecosystem within which they're assessed, and not a hierarchy as Stonewall mandate, then you can't really go wrong.

Bookmarking this. There's nowt so pedigree as a Simon Fanshawe endorsement let alone his own company.

(Do you have the details?)

Thank you for all your suggestions. Off to research them all now.

Here's Simon Fanshawe's "Diversity by Design" info

Michael Conroy's work is here:
menatworkcic.org/

It's probably less suited to corporate situations, but it looks as though they do important work.
