The suicide stats are interesting.

That's a good article. Sensible conclusion.

We need an apolitical and rigorous review of the evidence, and more and better research, as have happened in several European countries, which then altered their approach to treating young people with gender dysphoria. We need the medical and mental health communities to create policies that are sound, fair, and evidence-based, guided not by ideology but a complicated, underreported reality.

The politicization of this issue, on both the Left and Right, must stop. The fight should not be seen as pro- or anti-trans but rather pro-good health care and mental health care for all young people.

A good read. And yes to this:

timeisnotaline · 25/02/2022 13:47

That all seems fair to me. I assume the author gets denounced as a hateful terf by any protrans groups though.

RoyalCorgi · 25/02/2022 13:58

It is a good read. I'm not sure why it purports to be about what both sides get wrong when clearly there is only one side getting it wrong, as the article sets out.

Because they partly belief the hypend about certain groups being 'anti trans' not realising this article is exactly the sort of thing that is considered 'anti trans'
JellySaurus · 25/02/2022 14:32

Woah! That's a totally terfy article! Excellent, clear explanation of the situation and why change is needed.

As for 'both sides' issue, either the author doesn't realise that she has just aligned herself with the Gender Critical Feminist perspective (she might be TWAW and still want careful scrutiny of medical interventions), or she is paying lip-service to the attitude that one must never ascribe blame to only one side of any debate, because you might make them feel bad, and that would be unKind.

It's because the only two sides they know about are the pro-transition side and the right wing side. 'Our' side doesn't exist as far as they are concerned. We are misrepresented as having the same opinion as conservatives who want us to go back to the 1950s.

She describes herself as a 'gender nuance junkie".

Nice line!

In response to @OldCrone's excellent point, this seems like a good point to throw this in.

That's interesting. I seem to recall newsweek as being very TRA on something not long back. I'm trying to remember what it was.
I'm wondering if the reverse ferreting is starting to pick up force.

OldCrone · 25/02/2022 17:53

Thanks for posting that image @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g. I thought I had that saved but I couldn't find it. I was also looking for this one that I eventually found on another post on here.

No problem. I believe the credit for it should go to Lily Maynard, who tidied up and slightly improved an earlier version. I'm a little bit dubious about the shorthand for blue brains and pink brains myself, but it's a useful starting point.

Crouton19 · 25/02/2022 18:16

This is the author’s substack piece about trying to get it published. I think some words of encouragement to Newsweek might be in order!
