Scotland introducing GRA bill 3rd March

As a Scot I'm ashamed to admit I'm not sure what the process usually is, but it sounds as if this is being rushed:

The @scotgov are introducing their Bill to reform the GRA on Thursday 3rd March, in 9 days. Unusually, this will be by Ministerial Statement @ScotParl. Clearly they’re expecting a hostile reaction - but from whom?

For Women Scotland have noted that this means that recent ScotGov meetings with feminist groups about the bill were just window dressing and could not have been actually considered.

The Scottish Government will continue to uphold the rights and protections that women and girls currently have under the Equality Act."

Bollocks.

is the short response to that.

Our proposals do not introduce new rights for trans people

I was Hmm at this too. Surely the right to change your legal sex with no gatekeeping is a new right?

Perhaps they mean that it's not a right only for trans people. Anyone will be able to change their legally recognised sex whether they are 'trans' or not. I expect this to be particularly attractive to sexual predators.

My only hope is that this will enrage people so much that they will turn against the snp in future elections.

Thing is if people really want an independent Scotland they will continue to vote SNP. The SNP know this which is why they are determined to force this through even though it may do them some harm in the short term. Once self ID is voted through I can't see it ever being changed back. If they do it now it avoids it being a election matter. We've seen how damaging it has been for Labour, Lib Dems and Greens when it is discussed pre-election or pre leadership selection. This is a canny (if undemocratic) move by the SNP. They won't have to answer the question "what is a Women?" during their election campaign.

I genuinely don't know if they will. I'm very left in political outlook and was certain Scotland should become independent. With all this though I'm less certain about independence and less certain that the Tories are scum. The rights of women are so absolutely fundamental that I don't think I can bring myself to vote against them. I'm sure I'm not the only woman who feels like that.

I don't see the point in believing there should be another referendum about Scotlands independence, when no such referendum is permitted to the 50% of the electorate having their legal rights stripped to benefit the other 50% and being reduced to a subordinate position in access and equality, plus being wholly and unilaterally redefined. Again, to benefit the other 50%.

Democracy not really a thing for the SNP, they are a bloody scary lot for women.
