Brave woman. brave daughter, speaking out.

This bit:

One study, by the Macdonald–Laurier Institute, a Canadian think tank, argued 'there is neither a medical intervention nor a clever philosophical argument that can make it fair for trans women to compete in women's sport.

'For trans women who have successfully suppressed testosterone for 12 months, the extent of muscle/strength loss is only an approximately (and modest) -5% after 12 months,' the authors of the study wrote.

'Testosterone suppression does not remove the athletic advantage acquired under high testosterone conditions at puberty, while the male musculoskeletal advantage is retained.'

The view is echoed by Joanna Harper, who herself is a transgender competitive runner and medical physicist at Loughborough University in the UK.

'There's 'absolutely no question trans women will maintain strength advantages over cisgender women, or non-transgender women, even after testosterone suppression.

'That's based on my clinical experience, rather than published data, but I would say there's zero doubt in my mind,' she told WebMD.

I thought Joanna Harper is the TW, whose extremely flawed study of just 8 TW athletes, was the person who persuaded the IOC to change their rules for the 2020 Olympics; thus opening the doors to the likes of Lauren Hubbard and the other non cheat cheats (just complying with the rules, not their fault). Yet Harper seems to be agreeing that their is an inherent unfairness in their participation. So why did Harper lobby to get the rules changed?

(Fuck "non transgender women" though. Women, we are women)

That’s great, well done to them speaking out.

Yes, Harper rubbed the lamp and let the genie out, and is now trying to put it back in. Cheers Jo Hmm.

Brave women. Such a blooming shame. Those men should be ashamed . They are just cheats.

Harper did produce that very poor study of 8 runners (where half the data couldn't be verified, there were no controls, and the data from the runner who got faster after transition was removed from the analysis) when they were a medical physicist (I think). Since then Harper decided to do it properly and has taken on a PhD in the subject. The problem with that, if you go into your research wanting to prove something you've decided/desperately want to be true, is that the science might say no. If that happens you can't ignore the science and you end up, as Harper has, having to admit that your results show transwomen retain an advantage but then trying to fudge some reason why they should still be in female sport. So far this seems to consist of vague waffle about 'meaningful competition' still being absolutely fine, which in real terms seems to mean transwomen still have an advantage but it's very slightly less than before so women should just put up with it.

Perhaps Harper is becoming increasingly aware that's still an unfair position, I don't know. The problem now is that with increasing studies of trans athletes, there's more people with a vested interest in showing their performance really has reduced, and it's easy to carefully underperform when it matters.

Yes. Good to see Harper stating there is zero doubt .... now time for them to start pressing for change from the various bodies that allow trans women to compete in the women's categories - at all levels.
