Basically a transwoman has been winning all the swims because…. They have a man’s body so always will.

But apparently, it’s now OUR fault as women if they are allowed to participate in the race. Women should have said NO and refuse to swim instead.

I hate that.

The victim blaming
The unchecked privilege- yes as a man im sure this guy could have walked out and made a point. But as a woman? Any idea of the huge backlash those women swimmers would have had to deal with .

Arggg

Because that definitely would have attracted no consequences for them. Not socially. Not in pile-ons. No reprimands from their universities who told them to compete. No comebacks on any scholarships.

Yeah, women. You're not even trying. Hmm

StrawberryLollipops · 19/02/2022 13:29

First rule of misogyny, innit.

Women are responsible for what men do.

Everything everywhere is always our fault.

SamphiretheStickerist · 19/02/2022 13:30

Blech! Some of the comments. Tell me you're a misogynistic twat without actually telling me

"Hey, they stand up for abortion rights"

Fuckwittery.

CrimeaChimera · 19/02/2022 13:30

Wow. How to demonstrate your perception and experiences have been influenced by male privilege while demonstrating you don;t even get what male privilege is all about.

[bangs head]

Yes, why aren’t women athletes queueing up to become the sporting equivalent of Kathleen stock or - her very name almost a shorthand for bigotry by now - JKR?

I just can’t work it out.

DPotter · 19/02/2022 13:47

I think a large contributory factor is women athletes not speaking out is their relative youth, in comparison to Kathleen Stock & JKR. These swimmers are late teens, early 20s at the most and it takes a lots of balls to take a stand. Former athletes are speaking out - they are older and more worldly wise. I think we should be looking at the coaching to speak out and stand up for these women athletes

JunkIsland · 19/02/2022 13:55

Dpotter - yes, that’s what I mean. Look at the reception women who are established in their careers get. Even there, they are in a minority as the risk is too high for most. It’s thoroughly unreasonable to expect young women starting out and who may be looking at sponsorships to speak out in the current climate. Utterly arrogant to blame these athletes.

BootsAndRoots · 19/02/2022 14:23

All of the female athletes suffer a lot of intimidation over this issue, there is a win at any cost coach there who pushed for Thomas to compete, he will have no problem is getting rid of any protesters, it's the same as NDAs.

When the media becomes brave enough to talk about this story it will be a massive scandal and many will question how will tolerated the cheating and the threats.

IlkaDoxie · 19/02/2022 14:23

Matt Walsh is a misogynistic dick, though. Can't be bothered to get annoyed by someone like that. The thing is, he's not stupid, he knows why those girls haven't spoken up and he knows his comment is inflammatory. Best thing for him is oxygen starvation.

Not literally Wink

Hasselhoffsheadband · 19/02/2022 14:43

Yeah he has just said it for attention and to be imflammatory.

Also though, in order to TRAs to disagree with what he has said (especially the ones who appropriate feminism in order to validate their own womanhood) they would have to draw attention to what has happened with Lia Thomas in the first place, and also side with the female athletes involved, which could then be interpreted as an admission that Thomas shouldn't have been racing but that the others were not in a position to speak out!

Matt Walsh has also blamed the fathers of these female athletes for not speaking out in a later tweet as well.....

TravellingFrom · 19/02/2022 15:03

I hadn’t seen that…
Why not… still everyone else fault though.

Women lose sports sponsorship deals for dropping out on purpose.

Also, has this victim blamer never noticed all the death and rape threats women get for saying anything? I guess not.
It's pure ignorance.

Artichokeleaves · 19/02/2022 15:35

Victim blaming at its finest.

Yeah women have got that t shirt, they've got t shirts going back multiple centuries. They can all still can see the person who owns the behaviour.

QuinnMovesOn · 19/02/2022 15:59

What an ass. They can't speak out against this, because that's not allowed. If I wrote this post under my own name, I would lose my job in academia.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 19/02/2022 16:43

What a complete and utter plonker….

TheGratefulBread · 19/02/2022 17:55

I am related to a female swimmer, who represents one of the other Ivy League schools, and is impacted by this. She would love nothing more than to speak her mind, and to make a stand, but she fears losing her scholarship if she does.

Colleges (universities) only offer guaranteed full, four year scholarships in six sports; FBS (Div-I) football, tennis, men's basketball, women's basketball, women's gymnastics, and women's volleyball. College athletes outside of those sports, who do get scholarships, usually only receive partial scholarships (of varying degrees), and they are usually on a year-by-year contract basis. You have to meet certain requirements to have your scholarship renewed each year.

For many of these young women, their scholarship - even if only partial - makes a big dent in the cost of attending an Ivy League school, and is what makes it affordable. Therefore I cannot blame them for not wanting to speak out, because unless they're seniors about to graduate, they know they risk their scholarships.

It's a disgusting position to put these young women in, because athletic administrators know, they will be reluctant to speak out. Angry

Doresy · 19/02/2022 18:34

Quite.

Artichokeleaves · 19/02/2022 18:39

Yet another symptom of this politic movement: absolute inability to use emotional intelligence beyond toddler level.

Consent obtained under duress and effectively under threat is not consent

When you refuse to let people speak, you do not successfully vanish the truth or make the problem go away. You make the anger, the injustice, the resentment boil and bubble and grow out of sight where it will get bigger and bigger, and there is only one ending. It will not be pretty. This is never going to end in glittery rainbows and meadows of peace and harmony.
