Period Pants for 'children' using a photo of boys - WTF?!

Cheeky Pants are selling period pants for children. Not girls. And using a photo of what very much looks like a couple of boys to me.

My first thought was logically perhaps they're targeting the incontinence / bed-wetter market, but the copy clearly refers to children having periods etc.

No no no no no.

@KevinTheKoala

I was 9 when my periods began and have never had must breast tissue (often told I'm less of a woman because of this - by other women funnily enough) so it is possible that the two in the picture are actually girls and even if they are not it's likely they have just made a mistake with the picture/wording as they do also sell incontinence pants. Using children in place of girls is fine because at that young age they very much are still children.
This has nothing to do with being a child.

Biological women have periods. Men do not. It’s about basic biology. Boys have NO need for period pants!

Seriously it is still there on the homepage.

@CatherinaJTV

a) you are assuming that these are boys b) and yes, children get periods - many girls start at 10 or 11, average age of menarche in the UK is about 12.7 years, when the girl is still very much a child.
They are boys. Other photos of them on the site clearly show they are. Most girls get their period when their body reaches a certain weight. Also, they would have breasts - these boys don’t, they look about 8 years old and are slim. Not ALL children get periods - the male variety don’t.

In the actual period pants section all the photos are female.

It's one gender neutral photo that was more likely taken for the incontinence section. It is used because they are children.

The other pictures are more teens/young women. I suspect the incontince picture has been used because some younger girls also get periods.

QuinkWashable · 18/02/2022 09:43

The little one (at the back, in other pics looks 4 or 5) could be a girl - it's hard to tell at that age - but is obviously not someone who'd need period pants anyway!

I've looked at the incontinence pants, as I have a child who has little accidents - what I find weird, is that there's no boys/girls - when boys pants, anywhere else, are shaped to accommodate their body. Even nappies can be bought in boys and girls, with the idea that the urine's going to be coming out at a different angle/location, yet these pants are apparently universal. I also note that by the 9-10, there's a significant difference in waist to hip ratio - which is odd, because again, my boys are straight up and down - it's girls that would be developing hips and need the slightly different shape in their trunks, and I would think that bagginess would be a bad thing in incontinence pants.

In summary. Shan't be buying from them. Period pants for me, or boxers for my boy. They don't seem to have thought through what they're selling when they desexed it.

I've contacted them including a screenshot of their home page.

Let's see what they say.

Svara · 18/02/2022 09:44

I don't get the children's section, it's the same pants as the other sections, in women's sizes starting from a 4-6. Not pants for eight year old children.

QuinkWashable · 18/02/2022 09:46

Rolls eyes - I was in the adult men's section (the trunks are hideous, even my boy wouldn't wear those) and clicked to do their questionnaire to determine product.

It's entirely aimed at women buying period pants. They chuck in a couple on incontinence questions, but all the answers are women's because they never ask if you're looking for childs/male/females....

Or including a shot of my daffodils in fact! I got a snippy reply, but have re-sent with the proper pic!

This is a fantastic example of what happens when language is changed to be 'inclusive'. What is left is a meaningless garble and no one is exactly sure what the product is or for. Would the children's incontinence pants work for a boy as well as a girl? We don't know because they are purely gender neutral.

If I buy a product I want a fair idea whether it will serve the purpose I want it to, this mangling of language just makes it more difficult.

PearPickingPorky · 18/02/2022 10:44

@Doesabear

How do you know they're boys? They might be girls with short hair. My DD had short hair and looked very much like a boy until she was 10 or so.
Was she having periods at 10?

Why did she "look like a boy", and what was it that made her no longer "look like a boy"?

Svara · 18/02/2022 10:53

The picture doesn't even show the right pants those are their children's incontinence pants. Silly to have a section for 'children's' period pants then the pants are in women's sizes. Doubt a women's 4-6 would fit the children pictured.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 18/02/2022 17:06

@Doubletoilandtrouble

I have two children around 10-11, one has a penis the other one doesn’t…

If any (or both) suddenly start to bleed from their genitalia, should I buy the period pants or get a doctor’s appointment? And how do I know what do do for each one?

Good question, Double! Better find out how they identify now. Remember to check every week in case they’ve changed …
Artichokepiglet · 18/02/2022 17:49

I would honestly put it down to them not having a relevant image at the time for that category. I don't think they're suggesting young boys need period pants/have periods.
