It's happening to men too now. Peter Johnson from NHS England just spent a couple of minutes talking about prostate cancer.

"People need to get checked" etc. i don't think I heard the word men at all.

Oh fgs.

The words men and women aren't value judgments they are biological descriptors.

You cant even say they are identities because that would imply that when they die or end up in coma they are no longer husbands wives fathers mothers etc they are just nothing any more because they can't identify as such.

We need to stop pandering to people who cant cope with reality and allow eveeyone else to be able to access the life saving messages and procedures.

I complained to the BBC for the same thing witg their prostate cancer article.

Theor response was that because someone else does all the dirty work on the Web sites ie name the sex classes involved they were happy with their misleading use of people

lovelyweathertoday · 17/02/2022 07:19

The actual information about prostate cancer used the word men repeatedly.

Radio 4 is a bit different to the News App then. Not a ‘people’ in sight!
'I lost my dad to prostate cancer, don't lose yours' www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-60390084

Whatwouldscullydo · 17/02/2022 07:22

Which proves the point nicely.

All these people talking about " people with prostate cancer" etc are only able to do so this way because someone else does the dirty work of naming men and women and takes the abuse fir it.

lovelyweathertoday · 17/02/2022 07:27

It's Peter Johnson, I think he was the National Clinical Director for Cancer from NHS England. That bit of the interview starts at 6.53 am.

He says 14000 people haven't been treated for prostate cancer as expected. People need to get checked.

Not as bad as Times Radio yesterday on Matt Chorley show which had a long interview (about what sounded otherwise like an excellent charity) for birthing people, said at least 10 times!
Men did get mentioned a lot in run up to this prostate segment but in the interview it was people

FannyCann · 17/02/2022 08:21

Posting this link again for anyone who hasn't seen it this is the paper to refer to when making a stand on this.

I have stuck my head above the parapet and posted it on my hospital intranet whilst correcting use of the word gender instead of sex on a mention of cancer services. Was thanked and the piece corrected by the author, someone in the communications dept.

I'm calling it out every time now. I'm sick of this.

I've booked in my prostate check and DP's smear test, I've explained the procedure to him but he's wondering where they put the speculum.

Chersfrozenface · 17/02/2022 08:54

NHS prostate cancer page www.nhs.uk/conditions/prostate-cancer/
"The prostate is a small gland in the pelvis and is part of the male reproductive system.

About the size of a walnut, it's located between the penis and the bladder, and surrounds the urethra."

NHS cervical cancer page www.nhs.uk/conditions/cervical-cancer/
"Cervical cancer is a cancer that's found anywhere in the cervix.

The cervix is the opening between the vagina and the womb (uterus).

It's part of the reproductive system and is sometimes called the neck of the womb."

Spot the missing word.

Then tell me again that all this isn't about erasing females.

Signalbox · 17/02/2022 09:20

I think the delay speaks volumes.

For years there has been an obvious disparity where the word “people” + (body part) has been used to describe women but no such equivalent used to describe men. I always assumed this was because it lumps TW back in with men (and male anatomy) and that wasn’t acceptable.

The downside of this (for the ideology) has been that by deconstructing the meaning of woman and female without also deconstructing the meaning of man and male gives the opportunity for women/feminists to point out that gender ideology is misogynistic.

So the move to include men in this nonsense is very late in the day because it is for appearances sake only, an attempt to conceal the fact that gender ideology is a men’s rights movement.

HelloKeith · 17/02/2022 09:29

He says 14000 people haven't been treated for prostate cancer as expected. People need to get checked.

Should we all volunteer then?

Whatwouldscullydo · 17/02/2022 09:47

Should we all volunteer then?

Great idea! Then we can all be thrilled that the rates of prostate cancer have dropped significantly and what wonderful news that is. And we didn't even have to invest any money into treatment, research etc now they can afford more SW training.

Beowulfa · 17/02/2022 10:01

In transition surgery for removing male genitals and creating a faux vagina is the prostate ever removed as part of the procedure? The "plumbing" there is extremely delicate and you wouldn't want to fiddle with it unnecessarily I'd assume.

RoyalCorgi · 17/02/2022 10:06

"'I lost my dad to prostate cancer, don't lose yours"

Should be "I lost my ejaculating parent to prostate cancer", surely.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/02/2022 11:17

I didn't think it was, generally. I base this on reading a description of how a male uterus implant would work Confused

@Chersfrozenface

NHS prostate cancer page www.nhs.uk/conditions/prostate-cancer/ "The prostate is a small gland in the pelvis and is part of the male reproductive system.

NHS cervical cancer page www.nhs.uk/conditions/cervical-cancer/

From the next page :

*Who is more likely to get cervical cancer

Anyone with a cervix can get cervical cancer. This includes women, trans men, non-binary people, and intersex people with a cervix*

Whatwouldscullydo · 17/02/2022 11:33

Which non binary and intersex people would those be then?

Chersfrozenface · 17/02/2022 11:52

I don't care what's on the next page.

On the prostate cancer page the word 'male' is used.

On the cervical cancer page the word 'female' is omitted in the corresponding phrase.

This can only be deliberate and tells you all you need to know.

ChickenStripper · 17/02/2022 22:16

@Whatwouldscullydo

Would it be people who were born female?
Whatwouldscullydo · 17/02/2022 22:22

Almost there...

Is there a word for this group of adult human females ?

Brava! Well done that woman 👏👏👏

Doubletoilandtrouble · 17/02/2022 23:06

I am now worried about prostate cancer. This seem to affect a lot of people. I think I will book an appointment to get myself checked out.

Eresh, that is such a good point. My DH has never had a smear test and now I am actually really worried about him. It appears lots of people get cervical cancer and he has never had a smear test in his life. English is my second language (not quite sure about the cervix but) but this sounds really dangerous and horrific. I am booking him an appointment tomorrow morning. Better safe than sorry!!!
