KJK in Nottingham Today

Me and a friend went along to this Regional Speaker's Corner event today. I was surprised there weren't more protesters, to be honest.

It was great to meet KJ in the flesh, she is truly awesome.

The weather was foul, so the event wasn't as long as the Reformer's Tree ones, the attached video is under 40 minutes long

This part of the livestream - starts at 11.08 ish - where the two TW behind her do not know what to do with themselves. It almost looks the penny begins to drop for cream hat TW. I don't think they are used to being told that they are anything other than stunning and brave.

I’d have gone but it was chucking it down and was two trains and a rail replacement bus away.

Maybe if anything happens near ne…

FemaleAndLearning · 14/02/2022 21:55

Did anyone figure out who red jacket man was? He was taking photos of us all with his massive lens and starting the chanting.

Scraggythang · 14/02/2022 22:37

Brave brave women. I have such respect for everyone there who used their voice to express how they feel and who they are. We get so little space to do that. When I first landed here after a lot of questioning and I listened to Posie, I found her incredibly jarring and quite difficult. A lot like being told off by a friend’s mum, ha! I’d been conditioned to go with the crowd, be kind, be accommodating. But the more she puts herself out there, and it’s not always going to be safe, the more I’m in awe of her. She’s totally uncompromising. I aspire to be at least an 8th Posie. I’ve said here before that I didn’t used to agree with her on everything, but now I forget exactly what it was I didn’t agree with. I just felt I shouldn’t.

RVN123 · 14/02/2022 23:42

I'm also in awe of her and every single one of you that went, and those who spoke, and those who got in the way of the MEN in the bobble hats and blocked out the idiots in the background.

I was in Edinburgh today and saw lots of TWAW stickers everywhere, felt like tearing every single one down or writing graffiti on them. I may have done if I had been on my own.

Anyway, hoping you guys make it up to Scotland at some point.

Linguini · 15/02/2022 10:45

Posie Parker is extremely provocative to say the least.

I simply wouldn't have the gall to repeatedly refer to two TW as "men" I just couldn't do it.
Genuine fear on my part.

Love how the TRAs were over shouted with chants of "let women speak".
What a great movement Posie Parker is leading!

BigFrau · 15/02/2022 11:08

Thanks for posting this video, Nancy. This event was near me, I didn't know about it else I would've gone. Great to see (and hear) so many like-minded people in the crowd.

Am wondering if red-jacket-man is some kind of journalist with his almost sinister long lens.

Anyone know if the women who turned up with umbrellas and ribbons are part of a women's group in this area? Would love to know if there is one locally.

Hasselhoffsheadband · 15/02/2022 11:14

The faces of the two bobble hat TRAs were just incredulous when KJ was talking to them, it was quite funny! They are just so obviously used to everyone bending over backwards not to upset them, when someone speaks to them straight they don't know what to do with themselves.

They look like a couple of kids being given a bollocking by a teacher.

Universities fall over themselves to validate students' identities (am assuming this lot were students). So it will have come as a massive shock for them to have gone a few steps out of their uni campus to find themselves quite literally in the real world.

NancyDrawed · 15/02/2022 12:07

This is why Kellie-Jay's approach is so powerful. She is so direct and does not compromise at all where language around our sex is concerned. It is quite something to witness.

Cream bobble hat could not quite believe what was being said, I felt - but the truth hurts sometimes. If you have always been told how fantastic you are, it must come as something of a shock to be told to told that no, we don't see you as you see yourself.

I was quite impressed by their resilience, to be honest. Clearly they find it very uncomfortable to be faced with the truth quite so baldly.

The women speaking out and gathering were brave- I'm not ready to do so, as there are people I need to be discreet around.
Those two youngsters were as well- regardless of their unpleasant behaviour and how much I disagree with them. It's easier to be outright nasty than to quietly stand and listen to things you don't want to hear. (While not chanting).

I'll have to disagree with you about those two, picklemewalnuts - whilst they were much quieter (shell=shocked?) during the main part of the rally when outnumbered by us terven (love that construction, whoever it was!) they were really quite nastily intimidating to me (older, disabled, alone) before the main body of the gathering had turned up. Classic entitled male bullying behaviour.

(Kellie-Jay is still officially my hero, and I'd like to thank her profusely if she reads this).

I was happy to turn up and talk to the passing public.

I knew several people who didn't turn up who were thinking about going. It's ridiculous that it takes courage to publicly be associated with the statement that a woman is an adult human female.

It's shameful that our politicians and universities that should thrive on debate have allowed this fear to creep into current culture.

We must all keep writing/emailing/speaking up as much as possible to turn this around.

TooWicked · 15/02/2022 13:50

I'm sure I've seen a date of 15th May for Manchester, but I can't find it again now. Maybe I got it in an email.

TooWicked · 15/02/2022 13:51

Ah, just found it in my history, here you go - Events

picklemewalnuts · 15/02/2022 19:49

I'd be fine with that, @lovelyweathertoday, if the TRAs hadn't 'spun' that to mean 'loathe and despise trans people and think they are sex offenders'.
I have young people I don't want to scare off. We are already distanced due to my being so uncomfortable with what they are doing to themself. I struggle to know what to say, due to the size of the elephant in the room!

Zorayda · 15/02/2022 20:23

This is the middle-aged minder in the red coat: twitter.com/tregenza

It was fabulous to see so many women and be free to talk. I need to work on having calm conversations with the young women who just haven't thunk it through. For the next one I plan to have a decent sized sign, and I REALLY want to invest in a dinosaur costume.
KJK absolutely brilliant.
The energy of it was great. Feel re-booted.

lovelyweathertoday · 15/02/2022 20:49

@picklemewalnuts I hope you manage to keep up good relationships with the young people. It's a very tricky situation to deal with.

Binglebong · 15/02/2022 20:56

I wish I'd known it was happening. I really want to meet with some GC minded individuals- I'm out as such with the old guard at work but don't know the new well enough yet to reveal myself.

lovelyweathertoday · 15/02/2022 21:01

If you are near Nottingham you could contact Nottingham resisters or the women's rights network. Both have groups based in Nottingham.

And instagram. The photography was for his art project. Seems like he wasn't involved until he met Sophie and Sasha (bobble hat protesters). www.instagram.com/p/CZ79FtqtiwW/?utm_medium=copy_link
FemaleAndLearning · 15/02/2022 22:13

The text says "a group 9f women were going to protest about transwomen". No we weren't you narcisstic idiots we were their to talk about women's rights!

picklemewalnuts · 16/02/2022 07:31

That's a second man, learning. The red coat man is tregenza. He met another man (Phil Howcroft) who took a nice photo of the bobble boys.

FemaleAndLearning · 16/02/2022 10:53

I thought I had confused myself! Via that Instagram account you can see both bobble hats Instagrams and see their transitions. What a shame they are not happy being gay men.

Blogblogblogblog · 16/02/2022 12:51

Chris Tregenza (photographer) knew it was happening from his Twitter. He goes to lots of protests, protesting against a lot of issues. It seems from his Twitter, some of his and my views are the same (!) but as always, he conflates women’s rights as anti-trans rights and extreme right wing. He is a computer programming and runs a mock-up dungeons and dragons website and has supported people with ADHD. There’s such a known pattern here isn’t there.
I thought he was chief winder upper of the anti women’s rights lot getting them to chant over the women. And a white older male. Pointing an intimidatingly large camera at the women when you don’t know how those images are going to be used. Let Women Speak is such a poignant and truthful chant back to him.

Binglebong · 16/02/2022 13:53

I'm about an hour away from Nottingham but that's a good starting point, thanks.
