No comments allowed I see Hmm. I really think the headlines on these articles are misleading.

"Labour MP Rosie Duffield ‘tempted to defect’ over lack of support on trans stance women's rights" is more correct.

The Liberal Democrats, she said, had also approached her about a defection in the past but “I’m a Labour person, I shouldn’t be having to feel like this.”

I wonder when this was? The Lib Dems are fully TWAW. I heard an interview with Ed Davey recently and it didn't sound as if anything had changed.

WorriedMumsDontSleep · 11/02/2022 15:32

I hope she does and gives her constituents the opportunity to vote for her with a clear conscience without fearing they might contribute to Labour coming in and making self Id a reality.
“But how do I square Brexit? How do I square immigration?

On this statement, I'm pretty sure there are plenty of Conservatives who were remain. Theresa May was for example whereas Corbyn wanted to leave.
And realistically she can effect change regarding immigration with the party in power rather than wishing she could with her current party.

Comments were turned off for both Adele articles, too. Odd.

Rosie‘s Canterbury seat had been Conservative for donkey‘s years before she won it from Sir Julian Brazier who‘s views on most things were so far off the scale that even life long Tories rejected him. She won because she is a decent woman who represents sensible, balanced middle of the road policies, recognises that a lot of issues are complex and that over simplified slogans are counterproductive. I think she would be as at home in the left wing of the Conservative party - most of whom were remainers- as she is on the right wing of the Labour party. And I think most Canterbury residents would contine to support her. The Universities would doubtless prefer a hard left TWAW candidate, but that person wouöd not be elected in Canterbury even if students were resident and actually turned out to vote on polling day.

I was interested to see this posted on Twitter yesterday

"Sir Edward Davey has removed his he/him pronouns from his bio.🤔
If you're putting pronouns in your bio to make a political statement, what statement are you making when you remove pronouns from your bio?

Good detective work!

FOJN · 11/02/2022 17:58

That is interesting.

Unfortunately for Ed Davey when you're asked in an interview what you think about the concerns raised by women about proposals for reforming the GRA and you respond with, "I don't agree with them", it's going to take more than removing pronouns from you twitter bio to get us back on side. We're not stupid.

GibbonsGoatsGibbons · 11/02/2022 18:06

"Personally, leadership requires a slightly no-nonsense approach sometimes. It's great trying to accommodate everyone, but when 'everyone' means people actively trying to bring down one of your MPs ... you probably need to be sending out a stronger message that they don't do so in your name."
Well quite!

[if you're on a phone enabling flight mode quickly when opening telegraph articles allows you to read them - passing on the excellent tip that I was given here]

GibbonsGoatsGibbons · 11/02/2022 18:07

I'm guessing the pronouns aren't polling as well as the general anti women stance" does, sadly doubt it signals actual interest in protecting women.

Tiphaine · 11/02/2022 19:43

I agree GibbonsGoatsGibbons. I think it's more likely he's signalling to Ferring Pharmaceuticals that it's time for another massive donation. I am a little bit of a cynic, though, when it comes to men's motivations around belief in gender ideology.
