Ahhhh, a public relations disaster that just keeps on exploding.
They need proper crisis management for this. It's like a chain of never-ending Ratner moments.
It really is. It feels like they’re burying their heads in the sand and hoping the furore will pass. However as they haven’t dealt openly with any of the issues, and indeed appear to have attacked some of those who have tried to raise them, either openly (sacking of leaders) or behind closed doors (alleged reporting of whistleblowers to the police) it’s not going to disappear any time soon.
They have locked themselves into a position which they have so far shown no sign of being able to justify publically, presumably because they cannot find any valid justification that would adequately answer those challenging their stance. It’s possible Sulley has been removed from the district commissioner’s position, but if so it has been done silently, rather than with an open and honest confession that they messed up.
Much more is required, including:
a) An open statement on their position
b) An explanation of the ways they have reached their conclusion(s) and arrived at that position and
c) A further explanation of the ways they propose to deal with any possible side-effects of the huge change they are introducing.
Bringing in a huge change without justification or explanation then refusing to address those who criticize that change, instead trying to silence them, isn’t working and it isn’t going to. Especially as they have now demonstrated that whatever structures (if any) they put in place when the change was brought in are inadequate.
Even an idiot would have made sure, if they elected a flagship person to attempt to demonstrate their new position was reasonable, that the person chosen to represent them was squeaky clean. It’s genuinely laughable, or would be if it wasn’t so incredibly negative for all the women and girls this has the potential to harm.
