IOPC investigation into Met

Am sure you’ll all be Deeply Shocked to hear about the misogyny, bullying, discrimination & sexual harassment found by an IOPC of the Met.

Apparently, despite the IOPC explicitly saying this isn’t “a few bad apples” & it was in fact a cultural issue, the officers involved totally don’t represent the Met & can absolutely trust them & are safe with their [male] officers.

I don’t think all Met Police Officers are like this. I’m just increasingly scared they might be impossibly outnumbered.

Grim.

Hestyo · 01/02/2022 14:29

It really does feel like women are trapped between a rock, a hard place, the devil and the deep blue sea at the moment. Rank misogyny everywhere you turn.

UltraVividLament · 01/02/2022 14:30

I don't believe for a moment that the Met have taken appropriate action since 2017 to address these issues. I'd like to know exactly what they have done, and how they know the impact (if any) of those measures on reducing these appalling behaviours.

crazyjinglist · 01/02/2022 14:34

God it's both depressing and enraging. These are supposed to be the people who protect us against the vicious, scumbag lowlifes. They aren't supposed to be the vicious scumbag lowlifes.

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/02/2022 14:34

There's a "good cop" policeman talking on a thread here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/feminism/4462560-Met-apologise-for-sexist-derogatory-language-when-searching-woman?pg=2

You're right to be scared @NitroNine.Sad

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 01/02/2022 14:39

It's not just the Met. Culture from one force leaks into others.

I'm swinging between being depressed/scared/furious.

Jesus. Such arrogance and such stupidity. I couldn't get past his comments on page 3.

Sickening thread here. twitter.com/Fhamiltontimes/status/1488475474628120579?cxt=HHwWhsC4odqjkKgpAAAA

Copying it for anyone who can't access Twitter...

The Met apologises again. This time its really disturbing behaviour of officers at Charing Cross station where apparently messages about raping colleagues, killing black children + domestic violence were "jokes and banter". One cop known as the "mcrapey raperson".

This is offensive, but the public should know. Here's what a male cop wrote to a female officer at Charing Cross :

“I would happily rape you”, “if I was single I would actually hate fuck you”, “if I was single I would happily chloroform you”

Here's a WhatsApp conversation between 2 officers :

1 - “I fucking need to take my bird out, won’t see her until next Saturday. Then I have to work. Promised to take her out the Friday after. Making it up to her from when I backhanded her”
2 - “Grab her by the pussy”

1 - "You ever slapped your missus? It makes them love you more. Seriously since I did that she won’t leave me alone. Now I know why these daft c*ts are getting murdered by their spas*c boyfriends. Knock a bird about and she will love you. Human nature"
2 - "Lmao"

Here's how police referred to the public :

“Just walked past the big mosque all the fanatics turn up at to radicalise the young muslims....”
• “Some uniform or plain clothes work on Somalian rats… I battered one the other day…weighed less than [police officer’s name].”

Here's how police referred to their girlfriends

Officer 1: “And my bird won't stop taking the piss. Swear to got [sic] I'm going to smack her 😂”
Officer 2: “Slap her one…say you didn’t”
Officer 1: “Ill fucking do it. Shes fucked off home.”

This is the police force of Wayne Couzens. This is how an officer joked about getting a woman into bed :

"Getting a woman in to bed is like spreading butter. It can be done with a bit of effort using a credit card, but it's quicker and easier just to use a knife.”

How they talk about their girlfriends/wives :

“Fuck knows what she's on about I just wanna spuff on her” (about another cop's gf]
“Mate my Mrs is driving me mad - come and shag a baby into her it might shut her up bro.”

IOPC asked police why one cop was called a “mcrapey raperson”. It was because there were rumours he brought a woman back to the station for sex. One officer said it related to him “harassing them [women], getting on them, do you know what I mean being like, just a dick.”

Sorry, there's more. Homophobic comments such as “Gayyyyyy”, “You fucking gay!” and “Fuck you b*nder.

WeeBisom · 01/02/2022 15:20

Reading these comments fills me with the same horror I experienced when I read men's anonymous reviews of prostitutes on punters net. Nothing but pure contempt for women. But I suppose some of these cops are admitted punters!

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/02/2022 17:13

They don't pay.

flapjackfairy · 01/02/2022 17:53

it is relentless isnt it. Our society is rotten from the prime minister down.
But no doubt Cressida will do a Boris and refuse to go anyway .
Let's face it if the PM can ignore the law and do as he pleases along with his mates and police officers can display such vile behaviour and not even be sacked what hope is there ?
Also the report on the growth in sexual exploitation of children in all areas of the country also released today only adds to the feeling of rage and helplessness experienced by most of the general populace. It feels overwhelming at present.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 01/02/2022 18:02

Written up in Daily Mail. I'm sick with it.

And people are surprised at this?

UltraVividLament · 01/02/2022 18:05

@inheritancetrack

And people are surprised at this?
No, I don't think anyone posting here has expressed surprise. A whole host of other emotions though.
EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 01/02/2022 18:08

@inheritancetrack

And people are surprised at this?
Nobody's surprised.

But, every single time it's "lessons learned" and nothing changes.

When I think of another thread where a police officer is ostensibly defending her colleagues about the strip search story and claims to have never encountered such attitudes or disdain for women…

I'm sick with anger, wrath, helplessness and fury at being expected to take the gaslighting in good faith.

Thelnebriati · 01/02/2022 18:19

The inquiry was launched after an allegation that an officer 'had sex with'' a vulnerable women inside the station.

NitroNine · 01/02/2022 18:55

I realise that with my “an IOPC of the Met” error I have not much room to comment, but Officer Felix from the other thread has done some astonishing work with And just as we have some untruthful people in the police, we also have untruthful people in the general public. We have people involved in criminal activity and will lie to meet their needs. The way “some” is used neatly suggests a far lower proportion of untruthful police officers than there are liars in the general population. Sadly, announcing they cover up for the bent coppers rather undermined his argument about the general nobility & chivalry of these postmodern knights-errant. Strangely, he uses the term “police force” though.

“I’ve met the Met” stickers used to be surprisingly high-value for free stickers. This is because they weren’t just shiny, they were holographic. If the officer fingerprinting at the summer fair which was a totally normal childhood experience until I mentioned it to someone who grew up elsewhere understood about stickers they’d slip you an extra one still on its paper backing. I fear, though, that an awful lot of current police officers shouldn’t be allowed to hand out stickers. To anyone, on behalf of anyone, at any event (etc). As in, they are not fit to have that level of responsibility nor to have that kind of trust placed in them. Let alone to hold the roles they do at moment.

It really is shameful. British Police shouldn’t be training other countries’ officers until standards are improved across the board such that it can be guaranteed the UK’s officers wouldn’t be exposing them to prejudice, discrimination, poor practice & even outright criminality.
