I’ve often thought that actually identifying as another living person would be a good illustration of why identifying as the opposite sex is so insulting. If I identify as you, does that mean I am you and that means I have a right to enter your house and eat your food, or take an award you’ve won and make a speech? Most people can see how ridiculous that is and how outrageous it would be if it was legitimised (I hope!) yet that’s how males are just getting to take over women’s spaces, groups, awards etc.
So I do think stories like this are good for making people think, but I am sorry for Oli too. If he has a deep-seated feeling of not wanting to be himself, this isn’t the solution.
