They're rolling out a new bus pass for U22s. Naturally they want to know if the recipient is 'non-binary'.

do they get issued with rainbow ones to make sure they get beat up?

VelvetChairGirl · 25/01/2022 13:50

I think a scan of the passport/birth cert - I haven't looked into it that closely as I thought it was a gross invasion of privacy for the sake of free bus travel.

do they have to?

when I applied for a ZIP card for my son last year it wanted me to fill out a online form with his and my details, take a photo and upload it for the card and give passport number as proof of ID, he doesn't have one, so the option for me was submit application without proof of ID, and get a deceleration letter I had to take to the post office with his birth certificate, the person at the post office made no copies or anything he just looked at the birth certificate and then signed and put a stamp on the letter, I then posted the signed deceleration letter.

What if you don't have a passport?

SirChenjins · 25/01/2022 14:06

@KimikosNightmare

What if you don't have a passport?
Other forms of ID are accepted - can’t remember what off the top of my head, but ID and photos of both child and parent seemed excessive to me, in addition to all the other irrelevant information they asked for.
SirChenjins · 25/01/2022 14:07

That’s all fine if you have access to a physical post office @VelvetChairGirl - so many communities dont

ArabellaScott · 25/01/2022 14:12

The info I read said a passport or birth cert was required - gave up at that point.

ArabellaScott · 25/01/2022 14:13

Some years ago the 'free bus pass' for pensioners came under fire for bringing in ID cards by stealth. I did google but can't find any references now.

Found a couple of things:

I think this group did some of the campaigning on the issue: www.no2id.net

Transport is a sport!

Waitwhat23 · 25/01/2022 14:42

@ArabellaScott found this article - www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/mar/02/scottish-identity-database-plans-privacy-risk-ministers-warned

The introduction of the National Entitlement Card does seem like a roundabout way of getting around the repealed Identity Card Act 2006 - many local government employees have to have one as part of their staff ID cards, older people and teenagers have one to access transport and it seems to be increasingly a requirement for people who wish to access public services.

SantaClawsServiette · 25/01/2022 15:16

I'd have assumed the birth certificate was to avoid people fraudulently claiming they were under 22.

But why they want to know their sexuality specifically seems pretty dumb.

SantaClawsServiette · 25/01/2022 15:19

Years ago, not iin the UK, I used to get a student bus pass which was about half the price of a regular one. I just showed my student ID. Now they automatically give them for free to everyone enrolled in a post-secondary program.

There should be a pretty simple way to make something like this work. So much data collection and storage is really kind of costly. (unless it's a revenue stream... that's not a nice thought.)

littlbrowndog · 25/01/2022 15:28

Why does SG need to know your sexuality when getting a bus pass

This government always poking into young peoples sex lives.

For what ?

It’s a bus pass

To get a security pass to get into holyrood wonder if they ask everyone these sort of questions

SirChenjins · 25/01/2022 15:49

They are absolutely obsessed with defining young people by their sex lives - it’s baffling.

But as gender identity is fluid what's the point in asking at all?

MichelleScarn · 12/05/2022 07:53

Found this thread from a search so hope it's not too zombie of me! Have just received the email to complete application for free bus pass for my 5 yo, as is a special primary card for 5- 11 yo, and yes it asks if they identify as non binary....

Really? I just did this last week for 5yo and 7yo and I don’t think I saw that. And I hope I would’ve noticed because I’m all too aware of what ScotGov/SNP have been up to.

Now I’m doubting my memory. Did I just ignore it with a sarcastic tut to myself while completing the form?

DomesticatedZombie · 12/05/2022 09:46

Non-binary five year olds. I'm dead.

MichelleScarn · 12/05/2022 22:40

Apologies, it asks gender and offers male/female/other.

The SNP are at it again
MichelleScarn · 12/05/2022 22:42

I grumbled enough at the incorrect use of gender!
