Previous thread here. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4445695-Green-Party-Women-s-Ctte-Candidates-Vote

Co-Chairs: Emma Bateman and Ani Stafford-Townsend
Secretary: Julia Lagoutte & Alex Geddis (post shared)
Membership Secretary: Elise Benjamin
Treasurer: Nicola Watson
Non-Portfolio Officers (3 positions): Mandy Vere, Meg Shepherd-Foster & Natalia Kubica, and Lucy Watson & Nicole Haydock (the two pairs are post sharing)

Delighted to see Emma re-elected. Congratulations!

I see most of the GC-identified candidates have been elected. Good. Might hang onto my membership a bit longer and see how things develop.

Oh that is good news! Congratulations to Emma and the other candidates! Thanks

ArabellaScott · 21/01/2022 12:10

Congrats to all elected.

LizzieSiddal · 21/01/2022 12:14

That’s great news. I too will hold onto my membership to see what transpires.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/01/2022 12:40

Emma got by far the largest number of votes for Co-Chair, btw. There was a complex system of re-allocating votes and it took three rounds to decide the other Co-Chair position, but Emma got the requisite number of votes outright on the first round.

Great stuff. I really think there is a real chance to turn Greens round over time. Due to the democratic nature of Green system there is no way for the top to control the viewpoints of members and impose additional genderist thinking. So GC people can make long term impact. Moreover because the opposition are so triggered by GC viewpoints merely existing you might be able to win victories simply by being around. Longterm some of the opposition is likely to run away.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/01/2022 13:09

I hope so. I'd like to have a national political party I can vote for!

OP posts:
TheGreatATuin · 21/01/2022 13:18

Definitely excellent results!
Also, on the non-portfolio positions Mandy Vere was definitely the most outspoken on women's rights imo and also the only candidate for those positions to be elected outright in the first round.
This is a great win for women and I've already seen a couple of TRA tantrums on twitter. Well done, everyone!

ArabellaScott · 21/01/2022 13:22

I hope so, too. It's heartening. Ecological issues should be top of the list of things to focus on, yet the Greens have been co opted by some really odd political ideas.

mammajustkilledagnat · 21/01/2022 13:27

Brilliant news. Well done Emma.

prudencepuffin · 21/01/2022 15:21

Some good news from the Green Party at last - lets see how it goes, and great to see Emma back.

LemonRedwood · 21/01/2022 15:25

This is encouraging. I've been politically homeless for a good few years now but if the Greens can show they understand what a woman is then maybe I won't be feeling in the wilderness anymore.

Igmum · 21/01/2022 17:16

Very, very good news. I too am politically homeless. I would really like to vote Green and am keeping my fingers crossed on this issue.

fromorbit · 26/01/2022 19:39

Its working! This is easier than I thought. They are melting down.

Tasmin Osmond is resigning from the Greens. One of the most prominent sexists in the party who recently stood for leadership on a pro trans agender and won thousands of votes. Tasmin is walking away because a bunch of people have stood up to the trans agenda and they can't argue the case effectively.

Her self righteous statement is here. Hanging out with a bunch of people who have a different ideas about gender is so stressful it means the planet is no longer worth saving.
twitter.com/tamsinomond/status/1485529380256460803

At this rate we can recapture the most significant part of the party in a few years.

Everyone in stay in bunch of important motions to vote on coming up.

Labour party next I think. Bigger job, but even more important.

McDuffy · 26/01/2022 20:16

Oh interesting. I joined for the vote a few months ago but couldn't see how to vote this time around! I will stay as a member for this year to see if I can influence from the inside (and not miss any more important votes Blush)

doorornottodoor · 26/01/2022 20:36

What a drama lama! Although I see Tamsin is moving to Scotland and will join the Scottish Greens. They’ll be in good company with the delightful Lorna Slater Hmm

OvaHere · 26/01/2022 20:46

This is great news. Would love to have a party to vote for by the time another election comes around.

Yes, my excitement was very short lived ...
doorornottodoor · 26/01/2022 21:33

It’s like I’ve gone through the looking glass.

fromorbit · 27/01/2022 05:33

Tasmin going to Scotland and the Scottish Greens statement is wonderful news too. Because as much as Greens love to pretend they are above tribal nationalist stuff [like all us lefties] it does actually have real effects.

The Scottish Greens have weakened Green policies to get power alongside the SNP. Their price pushing the Gender recognition Act. Like the Lib Dems with the Tories they will find it isn't going to work out for them long term. If a bunch of English Greens go to Scotland and start telling Scots how to think well... that will end badly.

If it becomes an English "evil" Greens vs "good" Scottish Greens loads of ordinary members in GPEW will ask more questions. They will listen to the debate. Then they will swap sides.

Because the opposition have no solid arguments. Their standard line is effectively:

Don't listen to the bad witches!

Doesn't work, it gets boring, when the witches start speaking and they make sense and they all turn out to be lovely people despite their broomsticks. Then people start thinking maybe the witches were right.

Especially the case when one of the leading GC people in the GPEW is a British man of Pakistani descent and everyone opposing him is very white. The reason they wanted no debate is because they have nothing.

doorornottodoor · 27/01/2022 06:52

I am just despairing of the situation here in Scotland. Sad athough the recent EHRC news gives me hope.

Babdoc · 27/01/2022 08:55

I’m also in Scotland, and Satan will be skiing to work before I’d vote for the Greens here.
They are just the garden wing of the SNP, committed to both breaking up the UK and destroying women’s rights.

That is one thread of misinformation that Arabella.

And Jenny Jones is being told off for supporting women, despite her clarifying mantra at the start of her speech.

I think they're far more extreme than the SNP in many of their positions. A shame, as they'd be my party of choice if it weren't for their deep seated misogyny and waffle. Environmental concerns need to be top of the agenda everywhere.
ArabellaScott · 27/01/2022 10:12

Don't listen to the bad witches!

I think this would make a great placard.
