Inappropriate clothing (complete understatement)

I just can't believe this t-shirt is being sold. I could go on, but I'm just gobsmacked.

Where is it being sold? Do you have a link?

Godxilla · 16/01/2022 08:20

It's a US based company. www.teenhearts.com/

I'm not going to buy one, but how is this a feminist issue? (genuine question, not intended to be snarky!)

SweetGrapes · 16/01/2022 08:30

Is sexualised clothing aimed at teen girls not a feminist issue?

They are trying to be oh so clever with the full form of anal below. But the difference in letter size makes it very clear what will be seen from a distance. A teen girl wearing the word ANAL.
Essentially labelling her PREY.
Juxtapose this against her right to wear what she likes as well as the harassment that girl's face from boys and men as well as the state of her mental health and boundaries, it is most definitely a feminist issue.

Godxilla · 16/01/2022 08:37

Absolutely SweetGrapes. You have explained it clearly.

They are trying and failing to be "edgy". Looking at their range this is a very distasteful joke as opposed to the sexualisation of teenage girls. Their range is all unisex and generally baggy.

I'm much more disturbed by leather hot pants for 3 year olds sold by Asda.

Godxilla · 16/01/2022 09:40

Pleather hotpants for 3+ years is disturbing. I'm fed up of young girls (toddlers even) clothes being sexualized.

ViceLikeBlip · 16/01/2022 11:41

I mean, I get that it's gross for under 16s. And I think it's distasteful for older teenagers. But I guess I was thinking that it's equally gross for teenaged girls or boys.

I guess I'm remembering all the fcuk t-shirts from the 90s, and how cool we thought we were wearing them.

Lordamighty · 16/01/2022 12:39

Are they being sponsored by the Scottish government?

DoubleYouOhEmAyEn · 16/01/2022 12:50

It makes me feel like a pearl clutcher. But I guess that's the point isn't it? Shift the boundaries so that women accept more extreme language and behaviour as the norm. If you're shocked or disgusted you're in the wrong.

Sorry I haven't seen those, but isn't hot pants just another name for shorts?

And I'm surprised about how casual the previous posters are about those t-shirts.

MsGoodenough · 16/01/2022 12:52

Fcuk is a play on a swear word. It's not a teen girl announcing to the world she enjoys a sexual practice that is dangerous and unlikely to give her pleasure.

So I just looked up stats about women who actually enjoy it and 'womenshealthmag' says it can even be the 'preferred method' of 'women who don't have vaginas'. So that's another way self-id is skewing the stats, then.
ViceLikeBlip · 16/01/2022 13:28

The French connection t-shirts used to say things like "born to fcuk" and "let's fcuk" I remember a 14yo school friend proudly wearing a t-shirt saying "sxe pelase" to school on mufti day.

Like I said, I think it's grim, there's no chance my 15yo daughter would be allowed out the house wearing that (even if she bought it with her own money!)

My first reaction, though, was that I assumed it was aimed at boys. Which is of course still an issue if we're talking under 16s, but not a feminist issue as such.

Omicrone · 16/01/2022 13:50

What, you think that a pair of pleather shorts, which could be worn by girls with tights to a party and look completely normal (my own DD loves a shorts/tights combo although they mostly tend to be denim) is worse than a t-shirt aimed at teenagers that says 'I ❤ ANAL'? Confused

RepentMotherfucker · 16/01/2022 13:51

It's not aimed at boys. But even if it was it would still be a feminist issue because the rise of anal sex (porn, coercion, women's pleasure vs men's) is a feminist issue.

Is that ok? Can we talk about it now? Hmm

Bold fail Blush. I was quoting Ivy.

Main massive problem I with with things like this. Is wearing out and about in general.

Under coat till get to club ok fine.

Out down the shops etc. Just no.

Society has all sorts of people in it. Sauntering out on a sat afternoon round town centre.
Loads of people who will be taken aback. Horrified, shocked. Upset even. Children can read from what 4, 5ish well enough to read it. Cue. What's that mean mummy? (I have had this different word). Not what anyone needs! Some little ones get a word and say it over and over loudly. Again. Shitty for parents.

With stuff aimed at girls the inclusion of really iffy sexual stuff, often alluded to in ways the core customers young teens won't understand.

Meaning heading out with things saying stuff that is for older readers obviously sexual, and wearer has no idea.

There is NO excuse for that. It will attract attention, probably comments, being laughed at, suggestive things said etc. That's a shocking thing to do to a eg 12yi girl.

On the t-shirt thing it's been around years. Remember years ago I saw a man maybe 18-25 with t-shirt with reference to rape . I read it was wtf looked up looked him in eye. He looked really uncomfy and shame faced.

Often I think it's just not thought further than cool edgy top. Not setting out to cause others to feel certain ways.

This is the product description; surely this is grooming within plain sight.

Also someone sent me a quote they have on instagram about this product: “The shirt no one asked for but secretly needs • Link In Story ❤️ it hurts to be this good.” t.co/dhD7jHdfdW

Anal is of course promoted in pornland and is often requested by young males of young females because of said porn. The design is basically saying that a young woman wearing it is uber cool (in men's eyes) because she will do what men want sexually.

I can't imagine a young male wearing it outside of a safe gay space.

It is interesting what different messages the sex of the wearer conveys, isn't it?

I agree with your comment. It’s also: tasteless, vulgar and offensive. Makes me want to weep for our daughters.

I imagine so.
nansbigpants · 17/01/2022 10:08

Very grim. Particularly as it's being promoted to teens. I agree with pp about the general promotion of porn culture to our youngsters.

As a related aside, my friend is a primary school teacher and was teaching sex education to a class of 10 year olds. In a discussion about reproduction and intercourse one child told her she had it wrong, and the man could also put his penis up the woman's bum. Half the class agreed quite matter of factly.
