how does the GRA affect girls schools?

I was just thinking this yesterday on my way to pick up my son from his school thats 3 miles away.

the nearest schools to me are girls schools, is there anything stopping a determined parent enrolling a boy in the local girls school as trans and telling him to keep it up just so they can save time and money on transport costs?

not that I would do it, but I gotta say it certainly would be tempting 10 min walk to school vs 1 hour.

Yes, it would be entirely reasonable to force your child to pretend to be something completely different for many treats simply for the sake of an easier school run.

I can’t imagine for a servings that this will be a common problem Confused

DropYourSword · 15/01/2022 09:51

Oh for chrissake. Many years , not treats. And second, not servings.
Bloody swype keyboard is just painful.

Justkeeppedaling · 15/01/2022 10:56

In the event that your son actually, truthfully decided he is trans, many schools would take him. They'd be too frightened/woke not to.
See Girlguiding for all the issues this causes which they are ignoring.

force? dont know if your upto date but all they have to do is say I'm trans they could have a full beard and be wearing a suit, no one would be allowed to question it.

How many young school boys have a full beard and wear a suit @VelvetChairGirl?!

You literally said is there anything stopping a determined parent enrolling a boy in the local girls school as trans and telling him to keep it up just so they can save time and money on transport costs?

“Telling him to keep it up” would absolutely be forcing him to pretend he was something he wasn’t. So yes, this would be a parent forcing their child, as it relates to your op.

What age are you thinking of? theres boys with beards in my sons school and some of them are massive, they wear shirts and ties its the uniform too.

lighten up it was a question of possibilities as to if the schools could say no to it.

My local girls only private school has taken a hammering this week because they still refuse to take trans girls.

There’s a co Ed private school across the road, ffs.

I’d be interested to know this too. We have a famous girls boarding school in our town, and two girls state Grammars in the area as well.

Under 18's can't apply for a gender recognition certificate; so they haven't changed their legal sex.
If a school is for girls, they exclude boys; they aren't discriminating as they are treating all boys the same.

Doesn't seem to have made any difference to Guiding. They now allow girls and boys to sleep, shower and toilet together if the boy says he's a girl. No risk assessment required.
Ditto for adult members. It's why I left. I didn't want to have to share a bedroom or shower area with a man.

so no school should support trans then and tell them to wear the correct uniform/hair cut etc for their sex, and use the correct toilet and be called according to sex, no choosing your pronouns then as no one over 18 is in a school.

yet that's not whats happening.

I suspect that this would be advantageous to girls as boys schools are usually better resourced. DD2 went to a girls school that had an associated boys school - their budget was about 6x the girls budget. DD did suggest self id as a boy to allow her to switch schools for the 6th form.

Imagine all the girls who could benefit from self id to go to the likes of Eton...

Thelnebriati · 15/01/2022 15:44

Exactly, Eton is single sex isnt it.

It depends if the issue relates to sex or gender. School regulations refer to sex when they mean sex.
A school might decide to allow a child to wear their hair a certain way, or pick a name, because those are gendered activities.
They can provide an additional mixed sex toilet, but they have no right to allow access to changing rooms or dormitories that are for the opposite sex.
They have to provide appropriate PSE for a childs sex.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/01/2022 09:50

It should be irrelevant. Apart from the GRA only applying to adults, there's no legal basis for segregation by 'gender', whereas single sex is allowed. Of course, it goes without saying that that a single sex school should be appropriately trans inclusive, with pupils who transition to be trans boys or nonbinary not being kicked out.

Private schools have grouped together to refuse to admit trans girls to their schools. They fear losing charitable status.

OhLordyWhatNow · 17/01/2022 00:10

Girls Day School Trust (GDST) has been in existence since 1872 providing affordable education exclusively to girls. I can't see that changing because some males have hurty feelz.

GRA is not applicable to children so OP's question is null and void.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 17/01/2022 00:23

Why is it always asked about Girls schools, never should Eton or Harrow admit transboys?

OhLordyWhatNow · 17/01/2022 00:30

Because females should move aside and make way for males? #bekind 🙄

OhLordyWhatNow · 17/01/2022 00:30

^^ that was sarcasm btw

VioletLemon · 17/01/2022 00:38

What uniform or hair cut is sex based?
I think a girls school can refuse a male on grounds of its single sex status.
Insisting on particular items for females and males is sexist, same choice of uniform items should be available for all.
