"The truth about trans murders"

"Performative headlines can't disguise the facts"

Tis Still researches gender identity ideology and its effects on women.

In this article she looks at the claims of an epidemic of murders of trans people, in contrast to the treatment of the murder of much higher numbers of women "as mere background noise" and concludes that the claimed epidemic doesn't exist.

Her analysis does not support the cause being transphobia:

"In other words, despite the way their deaths are often framed in the media and by activists, the large majority of these trans victims were not killed simply for being trans. Almost half appear to involve prostitution — a fact that has been quietly brushed under the carpet."

Interesting and nuanced read.

It's true, the very same people who parrot "most vulnerable and marginalized group" tend to parrot "sex work is work", when it's sex work that makes people vulnerable.

It'd be interesting to compare the numbers within the prostitution market itself, grim it would be indeed, but statistics around murdered prostitutes.

We know that female prostitutes are 60-100 times more likely to be murdered than females who aren't prostitutes. I imagine the stat would be the same for TW prostitutes and other male prostitutes?

We can assume that TW prostitutes are 60-100 times more likely to be murdered than non-prostitute TW, but only because of the data we have on women. Is it a safe assumption?

Also, could it be that TW are more likely to be prostitutes compared to non trans people? The article seems so suggest this is the case. Is it true?

If TW are more likely to be prostitutes compared to men and women who aren't transgender, the claim "most vulnerable" starts to look slightly more realistic, but are TW prostitutes more likely to be murdered than female/male prostitutes who aren't trans?

Interesting.

Yes it's interesting for several reasons, including her very personal interest and the background information about organisations that fund and support the gathering of the stats.

The murder of prostitutes at the hands of violent abusers is horrific whoever they are but beyond that I don't know what assumptions can be made about rates of those deaths for women and rates for transwomen.

It is a useful piece of work of fact finding and analysis in challenging a familiar narrative in the media and among activists, which massively influences policy making and public opinion. It's well and good to expose the issue and see whether any counter argument or analysis is put forward.

As there is no mechanism in the UK to capture the gender identity of a murder victim, TRAs do not believe the reported rates are accurate
