Hi- is anyone up for discussing this? I've just been sent some general information, but once I went to the Government's own pages rshp.scot/ (having found the link in the PowerPoint slides we were sent), I found more info under the relevant 'Second Level' section. Within the section 'A fair and equal life for girls and boys' is part 3: 'Part 3: Being transgender' and the link for this is below.

rshp.scot/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Part-3.-Being-transgender-Activity-plan.pdf

Firstly, I was heartened to see that there was a section on 'Stereotypes and Equality' as Part 1, followed by 'Being Fair' in Part 2. But I'm uneasy about some of the messaging in Part 3. Yes, there's some context given by touching on stereotypes again, but I'm not sure that's enough to counter the message in the accompanying slides and am concerned that the overall message on this may hinge on the individual teacher and what their own outlook is, if you see what I mean.

My daughter is 10 and one of her friends is already identifying an non-binary. As she has ASD I have additional concerns about her wellbeing around this, especially as she is unusually large for her age.

Sorry if this has already been discussed- I'm writing in haste as I just got the email, but have to get back to work... Grin

'If a person describes themselves as transgender (sometimes people just say trans) they feel that the sex they were born doesn’t match how they feel inside.
So, a transgender woman lives as a woman today, but was born a boy. A transgender man lives as a man today, but was born a girl.'

Well, this section is a bit simplistic and could certainly be questioned.

What does 'live as a woman' or 'live as a man' mean?

I would also note that the terms are confusing. A 'transgender woman' suggests a woman who is transgender - a transman. But these terms have been confusing for a very long time, and I don't know that it's the fault of the resources for recording the guff misinformation that is transgender ideology.

a blameless event in which I was actually involved...

I think the Sandyford is Scotland's only clinic that specialises in 'gender' issues? I do share concerns about some of their recent work, but that's to be expected as a signposted service.
