Heey up, haven't posted here in ever such a long time. How's everyone doing? Shaping up to be a mad year isn't it?

Our group, Northern Radfem Network, have been doing loads of exciting campaigns and projects and it occurred to us that we're often all politics, all the time and that there's such a rich surge of interest in feminism that we want to capture it in a more creative and expressive way.

We've launched this writing competition with the aim of publishing an anthology of stories directly from women in the movement, whether visible or anonymous, so we have a snapshot of what was on everyone's mind at this point in feminist herstory. The first prize is weekend tickets to the UK's only women only festival (details obviously on the down low for security reasons) and runner up prizes are NRFN merch and whatever else we can find that's exciting and trophyworthy.

Dunno if that thing that happens when ya try to put a link in the OP so will attempt it and if it doesn't work will repost.

Have at at ladies! Spread it around and let's make this happen!

Fab.

BeReet · 12/01/2022 18:10

This sounds brilliant and there's a wealth of extremely well informed and articulate women on these boards.

highame · 12/01/2022 18:33

so we have a snapshot of what was on everyone's mind at this point in feminist herstory. excellent. A good, broad remit means lots of us women could have a go

baddaytoquitsmoking · 12/01/2022 18:45

This is what we're hoping for, a variety of visions from the whole spectrum of modern radical feminism. The stories we've had submitted so far have been absolutely bloody brilliant and I can't WAIT to read more.

An idea

Why don't we submit something as MN. We start it off and then people just add, somewhat like a thread. We are brilliant and I'm sure we could pull something together. It wouldn't win, or maybe not even get included, but it would show support for radfems

Naah that's just daft but if you don't think it is so daft, please start us off with something better than this

The Pearl Clutchers of Mumsnet were up to their usual extreme knitting and Camel feeding when Langcleg showed up. 'Whoops' said one of the group 'I thought you'd been banished'

highame · 14/01/2022 14:13

just a bump really

ArabellaScott · 14/01/2022 14:33

I like the idea of a collective work, highame!

SapphosRock · 14/01/2022 15:31

Ooh I've got a story to submit. This is a great incentive to finish it.

Scraggythang · 14/01/2022 15:47

@highame I think that’s a really interesting idea.

baddaytoquitsmoking · 16/01/2022 11:51

That's a fab idea! Mumsnet has been pivotal in this movement, I'd be honoured to exhibit some first hand action straight from the radicalisation portal.

BeReet · 20/01/2022 23:24

@highame that is a really cool idea, I really like the thought of a collective piece of work

highame · 21/01/2022 08:40

Deadline is 1st March. Any ideas for pulling something like this together. I would be happy to put in a bit of time.

I thought about 'memorable' threads. Taking our favourite threads and a small flavour of the messages including our memorable posters. It's a start. There's so much interesting stuff that Journos look at what's going on here to inform their articles.

As an aside, for me, the most important thing about MN is that non-academic, non-radical women are introduced to the debate and then of course, become real champions for women babble babble babble.

Thoughts on a postcard Grin

Olderbadger1 · 21/01/2022 15:10

I saw the competition OP, and tried to find out about the women's festival prize but there doesn't seem to be any info anywhere (I kept getting gynae sites!).

Think it would help if competitors knew what sort of festival it was, where and when it's held (or an approximation if you need to keep it secret). I was left wondering if it would cost a shed-load to get there, and/or if I'd need to stay over, and/or whether it would be my sort of thing or if it's aimed at a different demographic than me - elderly and frequently bewildered - especially since the prize is only one ticket.

I'm not knocking it - it's a great idea. But entrants probably need more info to entice them.

baddaytoquitsmoking · 31/01/2022 12:37

The festival details are top secret at present, for obvious reasons. There is a group where you can find out more.

All I can really say here is that it's female only, with a strict age cut off at 5 years old for boys, and that it's taking place in August. DM me if you'd like to know more!
