It’s just so rude and cravenly politically man-pleasing of any man to dismiss women’s concerns about how male gender identity politics affects us. This forcible colonisation by men of women’s feelings, spaces and systems just doesn’t affect any man directly. It never will. Because biology’s real and always will be. Male physical advantage is real and always will be.
Imagine going up to another group of people who can say with clear evidence that they’re being made fearful for their safety, privacy, dignity in public, for their ability to remain employed, for their ability retain their freedom of speech and their freedom of association with their community of likeminded others, for their ability to form romantic and sexual relationships with whomever they wish to or don’t, that they’re having their awards, opportunities and safe spaces actively removed from them, and that the state in which they live is colluding and compounding this oppression by actively promoting it in schools, hospitals and prisons, and that none of this is being properly democratically debated or acknowledged…. and then imagine trivialising or undermining what this group have to say about their experiences? When you know their issues can never affect you?
People who think they’re on the right side of history would be calling up Amnesty and Liberty right away and fundraising for court cases and alerting the media and raising the alarm on their social media channels, to support this oppressed group wouldn’t they. They’d be drawing posters and organising demonstrations and telling their kids and friends and everyone else who’d listen how awful it is. Rightly so.
Yet when it’s women being actively oppressed… and when women are resisting oppression in the form of enforcement of male sexual rights over women and children ..
well then suddenly it is respectable and even progressive to tell women just to shut up and take whatever is coming to them.
Which is straight up service to the patriarchy and it’s very disappointing to see anyone, male or female, engaging in it.
The ‘women shut up and take it’ attitude just underlines yet again how very different the male and female experience is, and how women will always need to advocate for ourselves. This gendered attitude which is used to present women as ‘less than’ men is just plain old sexism, the absolute opposite of progressive politics. It stinks. It’s everywhere.
