Following on from last year's successful awards I welcome you to the "OFFICIAL" FWR's Women of the Year Award 2021 nominations.

These were the guidelines set out by @ErrolTheDragon last year:

*No fictional women
*Women valued for something more than appearance or entertainment value
*Can (should?) include women who we don't all agree with or necessarily admire (my addition - but most of us would)
My addition: goes without saying women=adult human female.

It could include:

A) FWR heroes, some of whom won't be widely known.
B) women who you might expect to see a women of the year list in a serious newspaper. If they might figure in a 'people of the year' list or, women of the year list.

All category winners will be announced on 31 December.

Please nominate women in the categories and, if you have time, say why you admire them.

Just to be absolutely clear, these categories are ones I came up with last year (after asking ErrolTheDragon). You may or may not agree with them. Please add another category if you think the list needs it and add your nomination.

Academic of the Year
Tireless Campaigner
Freedom of Speech
International
Law, Policy & Politics
Law, Policy & Politics (Scotland)
Science, Medicine and Health
Writing and Journalism
Media and Entertainment
Courage Calls to Courage Award - For Outstanding Courage

The overall winner will be the woman who gets the most votes.

FWR WOMAN OF THE YEAR 2021 – tba on 31 December (last year's overall Winner was Keira Bell)

PS Sorry for typos etc.

@TurquoiseBaubles

I'm nominating my daughter as an example of an ordinary nurse who has been dealt the most extraordinary life for the last two years.

As a newly qualified nurse working on a Covid ward in London she told me the other day that she calculated that she had overseen the deaths (and subsequent laying out, washing, and putting in body bags Sad) of 300 people in body bags in her first year of nursing .

No-one will ever know her name, or the names of all the hundreds of nurses and health care assistants (mostly women) that did similar.

Your daughter sounds like an amazing nurse who has had to carry a heavy burden. I thank her ❤❤❤ from the bottom of my heart. You must be one proud mum 👏👏

Having read the joyful news that University College London has withdrawn from the Stonewall programme, I nominate Prof Alice Sullivan to represent all the women at UCL who have steadfastly supported women’s rights.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 17/12/2021 08:04

UCL has only withdrawn from Stonewall, but openly given the fundamental need to uphold academic freedom and freedom of speech as the reason.

Ensure that disabled people were not marginalised in the initiatives to support theatre as the pandemic destroyed the sector. Credited by disabled screenwriter Jack Thorne as being his inspiration and mentor snd of practical help, starting his career when he thought he could not work.
