I hope this link works. She is so calm & eloquent.

This is fantastic. She is such a star. So dignified and thoughtful.

mirax · 09/12/2021 06:05

I agree she is fantastic and makes good points. However I have reservations on gender affirming care for minors, given that it involves unnecessary and even harmful medical intervention these days. Yes, CNA made a general statement but ideally I would want this qualification made.

Clymene · 09/12/2021 06:11

I don't think she's talking about children.

And yes, why is she being asked this question?

fabricstash · 09/12/2021 07:46

I agree she is talking about adults not children when talking about affirmative care. She is so eloquent and measured in her interview. I think the line about inclusivity is recognising those differences is well said

Barbarantia · 09/12/2021 10:21

I came on here to find comments on this interview.

She said exactly what I think.

AgathaMystery · 09/12/2021 11:55

Yes I assumed she was discussing adults. Maybe she is of the JKR school of thought: call yourself what you will, dress however you please etc.

I remain utterly baffled how anyone could watch that and not think she is sane and reasonable.

Same. I find it as baffling as she did that it's somehow been decided that the best way to support trans people is to pretend they aren't trans? I don't see why we can't acknowledge that a trans woman is a trans woman.
Barbarantia · 09/12/2021 23:08

I did wonder today if transwomen prefer to deny their own trans-ness.
Do transmen want this too?

Is it bad to say trans?

And the thing about differences. That's something I've always believed in. It must be OK to be different. We are all different by default.

Tabasco007 · 09/12/2021 23:16

Thanks for sharing, very eloquently put and no literal violence from her!

JellySaurus · 09/12/2021 23:22

As ever with this issue, we have to understand what words mean. In this case ' gender affirmative care'. Does it mean blindly accepting everything the trans person says and acting as though it is true for you? Or does it mean not denying individuals their bodily autonomy if they choose to have body modification? After all, do we deny individuals the right to have facial tattoos, split their tongue, file their teeth, in order to satisfy their desire to look like a cat, lizard or alien?

I agree that NCA is a pleasure to listen to, both in what she says and in how she says it.

Skysblue · 09/12/2021 23:26

She was a pleasure to listen to and watch. Never heard of her before but I’m definitely going to download some of her work.

2319inprogress · 09/12/2021 23:39

The whole thing is absurd

Well quite. Fabulous woman, I could listen to her for hours.

JellySaurus · 09/12/2021 23:52

Her writing is equally beautiful, but the topics can be painful.

reallyisthisallthereis · 10/12/2021 00:08

Wonderful speaker. I'm off to download some of her work. I've read articles on her but this is the first time I've heard her speak and I'm so impressed. So calm and eloquent.
