Wow - the Guardian?

WinterTrees · 05/12/2021 20:56

Ah - John Boyne.

A real life example of a trans ally who turned GC because of vicious attacks when he wasn't a good enough ally.

Yes. Good to see. And supportive comments, too.

Well, the Observer - the list is dated today i.e. Sunday and it's in the paper version, 'the new review' section.

The Graun and the Observer do have different editorial stances on this.

But the branding on the website is Guardian and the G logo, so that's good.

Not that different-somone in the BTL comments recommended Trans and the Prof. Stock book-I replied to that wondering how that comment got past the gatekeepers-comment binned, as are all remotely GC comments.

I'm out of the loop...

What happened to John Boyne?

ArabellaScott · 05/12/2021 21:58

John Boyne wrote a book about a trans person.

He was told to educate himself.

So he did.

Thanks Arabella!

RoyalCorgi · 06/12/2021 07:56

I started a thread on this yesterday, specifically referencing John Boyne. Mumsnet deleted it because I use a phrase that alluded to Boyne's journey to the top of a mountain. Apparently it was unconducive to polite debate.

Anyway, well done, that man.

KittenKong · 06/12/2021 08:24

Hahaha. Ha. Ha.

lanadelgrey · 06/12/2021 09:22

And Kathleen Stock interview was from the observer too

Fukuraptor · 06/12/2021 09:48

I wonder if/when the Mumsnet naughty corner moderation policy will change in light of the mainstreaming of the debate after Nolan, Stock, BBC etc.

MoonlightApple · 06/12/2021 11:10

It’s now being framed as ‘an important topic of debate’ rather than a no-debate issue so definitely progress has been made!

Undoubtedly. The descriptor has moved from 'toxic' to 'contentious'.

More and more people are very aware of the issues involved.

The more awareness and sunlight, questions and discussion, the better.

I was going to post this. I'm very glad I don't work there today - must be war!

DifficultBloodyWoman · 07/12/2021 05:58

My first reaction was ‘woohoo’!

My second reaction was ‘how the hell did that happen’?!?

Thanks for pointing out that it is the Observer, Cher. Makes (slightly) more sense.

So we can use the four letter word that begins with f and ends with k, but not one that begins with p and ends with k?

Why?

I mean, I know why, I just find it utterly baffling. I don't like the three letter word that starts with c and ends with s and find it downright insulting, but I don't campaign to get MN to ban it.

I’ve just looked now, we’re some of the deleted comments supportive?
ArabellaScott · 07/12/2021 09:25

Aw, they're not deleting, are they?! FFS. Away to look ...

  • not only is the supportive comment still there, but this one:

' Helen Joyce's Trans, recommended here by John Boyne, was a surprising page turner for me though.'

Is a 'pick'!

Seeing this in The Guardian, of all papers, gives me a feeling of great joy. It's one thing seeing GC content in the Daily Mail, The Telegraph and The Times, but it's an entirely different thing to see it published in LOJ's paper. Hoorah!
