Congratulations to Stella and Sasha! 🥳WineThanksCake

Will try again possibly...

She describes a boggling lack of medical interest in analysis of rapid rise of trans identifying teen gurls; this wouldn't ever be ignored in other contexts.

Lost of great analogies. Eg patients turning up at A and E saying they have a heart attack wouldn't be fast tracked to treatment. Fast track v explorative care.

Lisa was astounded that data was messed with by respondents in a survey for trans youth.

Horrific lack of psychological care or exploration pre and post transition among her detransitioners for her latest study.

I have listened to a lot of these podcasts follow a recommendation from here and they are great. The whole subject is both alarming and fascinating. They have also interviewed some great people. Well done Stella and Sasha!

I have only recently discovered this podcast. I thought that Helena in episode 45 was particularly insightful as to how this captures teen girls, and episode 3 with Arty Morty - feminine boy to gay man, gave a very personal insight into how gender non conforming children may be captured in today's society.

Love this podcast! Very compassionate and honest!

This episode highlights the ideological barriers that are unique to this area of medicine; normal, quite mundane, processes of critical analysis have been sidestepped.

Lisa gives the analogy of a huge rise in young boys suddenly being diagnosed with breast cancer, for when there was a sudden rise in young teen girls I'd as trans, and how it wouldn't be ignored.

And when she tried to investigate this, the barriers were unfathomable.

She also describes a study near the end where teens were shown to be actively favouring those who came out as trans and being less favourable to those who were straight and had no particular "gender identity label." Social contagion.

The gaps in care for detransitioners her study highlighted are also shocking.

The points are frequently raised around the implications for therapists, and how so few are challenging or exploring other options or reasons for the dysphoria.

They all do know young people for whom transition has been positive, but far too many for whom it isn't the primary issue nor has been helpful. Something that Professor Michele Moore was vilified for trying to raise.

Such an important podcast episode in the light of the conversion therapy consultation.

Just been listening to this. I agree it's excellent. The attitude of clinicians to detransitioners is mindblowing. Total refusal to allow any doubt or scrutiny of their affirmative, fast tracking approach.
