Protest to organised against MP

mellongoose · 02/12/2021 14:31

This MP had recently been outspoken, alongside his female colleague, on protecting young people from irreversible surgery.

Young trans people accuse him and his comments of causing them to potentially self harm.

I read a thread on MN earlier today about how this is a pre-teen and teen 'trend'. It feels more sinister than that.

We must turn the tide.

I'm really surprised a serious publication printed that. Its just a page of hyperbole and false claims, with some of his tweets underneath for 'balance'.

FindTheTruth · 02/12/2021 14:50

this tween TRA is straight out of TRA training, poor thing. If only ASA could converse with grownups and discover their rhetoric of suicide and death is BS

FindTheTruth · 02/12/2021 14:51

Yes Thelnebriati, very poor reporting

Carpetssss · 02/12/2021 15:02

The comments from the Tra's under the report are objectively hilarious. The usual 'sex is a spectrum' and 'you are calling for our elimination'. Transperbole at its finest.
It must be exhausting to be so divorced from reality, but it makes our job easier, the lunacy of their claims is there for all to see.
Also it gives an old witch like me something to giggle about on a dull afternoon. Xmas Grin

I don't get all this talk about causing people to self harm. Is this a thing outside of trans people? Can other groups be caused to self harm by saying the wrong thing?

Chickenyhead · 02/12/2021 15:07

There is a strong link between autism and self harm. What else has a strong link to autism....Confused

Franca123 · 02/12/2021 15:09

So if I said something about autism that about autistic person disagreed with they might self harm? I'm just baffled.

FindTheTruth · 02/12/2021 15:19

It's ironic that the journalist who put a call out for stories on free speech in Universities, is now copy and pasting activism reminiscent of smears against Prof. Kathleen Stock

Chickenyhead · 02/12/2021 15:41

I don't know.

What I'm saying is that I haven't seen any reliable studies on the self harm suicide issue. I particularly haven't seen any which show causation over correlation.

Where there is such a significant co-morbidity (cannot think of the correctvword), I think it would be important to factor this in as an adjustment.

There has been a 4000% increase in teenage girls declaring themselves trans in recent years. Many of them are also autistic and have other issues such as trauma, family abuse etc.

ScreamingMeMe · 02/12/2021 16:23

Good grief.

ScrollingLeaves · 02/12/2021 16:48

There are co-morbidities. Dr David Bell who was formerly at the Tavistock clinic speaks of this in one of the Nolan
Podcasts about Stonewall.

Also, I don’t think there has been any research done regarding suicides post-transition; or the numbers of those who regret having transitioned.

Thelnebriati · 02/12/2021 16:48

The publication is covered by IPSO.

I always think articles like this are an own goal for the TRAs. They just come across as clowns that the majority of the population just laugh at. They even seem to have clown hair....

LonginesPrime · 02/12/2021 17:43

From the article:

If this fails, he said appealing for his 'transphobic' tweets to be removed would work, which he said is unlikely to happen.

The final option, he said, would be to not vote for him in the next election.

So this person thinks that the best way to take action against an MP who's allegedly done something wrong is to (1) protest against them (2) get them banned from Twitter and if all else fails (3) let them continue their allegedly unacceptable activity unhindered for months and possibly years until the next election rolls around and then (4) not vote for them?

Couldn't they just have googled how to complain about an MP's conduct? Why on earth wouldn't it occur to them that there might already be official channels to deal with these kinds of thing?

I suppose complaining through official channels only deals with the actual issue though - it doesn't get your picture in the paper.

Lammysaurus · 03/12/2021 03:16

I can't even see which tweets are supposed to be "transphobic" or "hateful". The article's pretty much just a long, evidence-free stream of (largely misinformed) opinion from the TikTok'er and then a much shorter summary from Jenkinson (who also doesn't know what he's being accused of saying).

I suppose complaining through official channels only deals with the actual issue though - it doesn't get your picture in the paper. Exactly. Same problem with reporting the tweets to Twitter, complaining to Party officials, voting for an opponent, campaigning for an opponent, etc. Way too much work and not enough payback in terms of getting your name out there to monetise your TikTok ramblings.
