By legally introducing a third non binary gender.

A much earlier piece

Note this: (dsd isn't the point of the move.)

It is also important not to forget that legal gender recognition is not the most important issue for intersex persons in their relation with the law and society. The top priority for intersex activists will always remain ending the widespread non-consensual and unnecessary forms of treatment that are performed on intersex children in order to have them comply with social expectations concerning their gender, physical appearance and sexual life.

The cognitive dissonance Angry

Cognitive dissonance, yes indeed. But the world of gender identity is an irony-free zone.

Belgium reduces safeguarding around women and girls? On balance, and looking at their historical record, probably not a good idea.

WarriorN · 01/12/2021 16:11

Because they have a transwoman in a key political position.

Indeed. It was historically a very patriarchal society - also Catholic Church influence was strong. The scandals surrounding paedophilia really mean that they should ask serious questions before reducing safeguarding measures.

From the article,

De Sutter has always been open about her trans identity and has never sought to hide that fact in her political career. Still, it was always clear that she is so much more than that identity.

As a doctor and gynecology professor, she has been a champion of women’s rights, gender equality and sexual reproductive rights. In every political position she’s held whether in the Belgian senate, the parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe or the European Parliament she has been a strong advocate for LGBTQ rights.

2003: Gender parity on political parties’ electoral lists; the first two candidates on the list should be of the opposite sex.

1994: Becomes a gynaecologist.
2004: Starts transitioning.
2014: Start of her political career.

Do we have a universally agreed definition of gender identity yet?

How do we have meaningful law if the definition of terms used within it are not agreed?

It seems to me if you asked 100 GNC or gender fluid people to define gender identity you would get 100 different answers and none of them could be verified objectively.
