Does anyone have any real stats on mental health and using preferred pronouns?

As the title says, I'm looking for stats around using preferred names/pronouns - particularly for children, but not sure where to go to get accurate ones. I keep seeing stats being shared like 'using preferred pronouns reduces risk of suicide in children by 43%' but I'm not sure where these are coming from, never mind if they're correct or not!

I feel like anyone can just share any stats and no one will question it, especially when it comes to the mental health of children and I'd quite like to rebuff if possible with some real information!

Happy to offer you some personal stats.

Thanks for your input @RobinMoiraWhite and I’m pleased that transitioning has helped your mental health. I certainly don't deny that true gender dysphoria exists, although I’m not sure that it exists to the extent that is currently being reported. I’m after quantifiable stats (and specifically for children if possible) because I think that children are so easily swayed and if told that they are agreed with, it will clearly make them feel ‘better’ - but what does that actually mean?

It’s certainly nice to be told that you’re right (especially as a teenager), but is that the best thing for them in the long run if the encouragement and support means that they start along a pathway of interventions that they regret. I’m not saying that all children will regret interventions, but I do think that the amount of children who will benefit is small in comparison to the amount of children who won’t - but this is what I’m trying to understand.

I’m not trying to show hate under the guise of questions, I’m trying to understand what is best and if there are any actual unbiased studies that show the true effect of e.g., calling a child by preferred pronouns or not - it’s such a fine balance between accepting someone for who they are, and being complicit in starting minors on a road that is difficult for them to get off.

I agree. But until the enormous benefits for trans people enabled to live our lives in freedom and peace are recognised, then 'questions' will be interpreted as hate however legitimate they may be.

What an odd thing to say. This is about empirical evidence.

How can we recognise benefits if we can't measure them? How can research be done if we can't ask questions?

What is the suggestion here, research can't be conducted because it would be 'interpreted as hate', therefore we are to go on 'personal stats' , which I presume means personal anecdote? Have I understood you correctly, Robin?

That seems accurate to me, Arabella.

It was the same reasoning that has had some research projects cancelled.

It is, as I miswrote previously, also a premise that would negate evidence-based appraisals for health and social care.

Your freedom to live your life surely ends at the point that you step into female spaces and start blethering on about yourself in answer to a question about actual facts.

Like coming on MN FWR telling us all about you.

Do you not even see this? Does it ever register that the OP isn't asking about YOU.

In answer to the question, I think one female centred organisation did some research a couple of years back into teen suicide and could find no link to being transgender.

Which is very positive news, that nobody was actually killing themselves due to being trans.
