NC for this as reasonably identifiable with usual username and want to avoid any backlash.
The main item on my organisation's intranet at the moment is a big piece on Trans Day of Remembrance. It uses the usual exclusionary and science-denying terminology ("sex assigned at birth") and references Stonewall and similar reports and surveys for its stats (e.g. "41% of trans people experienced a hate crime over previous 12 months"). What makes this even more annoying is that my organisation is healthcare-related and prides itself on being evidence-based!
We do have a mechanism to feedback anonymously and I want to use this to point out the factual errors or shortcomings in their source data in this piece. However I am actually at work today so although I have some sources to hand, I don't have time to seek out sources for the points I want to touch on below. Would any kind MNers with a bit of time to spare today be able to link to the source data for the following:
No trans people killed in UK for being trans in past 3 years
Anything evidencing conflation of 'hate crime' with 'hate incidents'
Evidence that much-relied-on suicide data was based on 27 self-selecting respondents
Also we're being pointed to GLAAD for certain trans-friendly hints and tips, which seems unusual for a UK-based organisation. Are they a sound neutral resource on this subject? If not, any evidence to the contrary would be useful.
I do need to incorporate factual links - ONS etc - to have a chance of being taken seriously - blogs, opinion pieces, MN threads won't cut it I'm afraid.
TIA and sorry for being lazy on this!
to anyone able to help (and an extra large slice for Arabella who I suspect is still on her vigil...)
