After pushing bindings via twitter

Lush were on the Today programme this morning talking about online harms and closing their socail media accounts in protest. THe BBC did not mention the furore over the Lush Paddington Instagram post nor that Lush appear to have removed all comments comlaining about the post.

As usual the BBC have given a half-the-facts one-sided version of events.

If you heard it and you'd like to complain about the omission the link is here

But they are keeping their twitter account open apparently. More waffle and fakeness from Lush.

MrsWooster · 23/11/2021 10:58

What, after having their arse comprehensively handed to them after gross safeguarding lapses? Quelle surprise.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 23/11/2021 11:01

I'd hoped to hear that they were ending their arrangement that allows children to acquire breast binders from their stores without their parents knowledge or consent?

There is a written article up now too

Jack Constantine Chief Digital Officer of Lush...is the son of Mark Constantine, CEO and founder of Lush.

Sure he got the job on merit though

BoreOfWhabylon · 23/11/2021 11:52

Just before the Lush item started Justin Webb (who is v challenging of genderwoo) briefly covered the JKR headlines. He explained that JKR believes in "the importance of biological sex".

Re Lush - let them know! It would be great if screenshots of some of their tweets were sent to

They will 100% be leaving social media as they don't like being accountable. This will be because they've been stung by #BinderGate. Now they'll get away with facilitating self harm to young women in the shadows without anyone knowing or being able to call them out on it. The piety of Jack Constantine pretending it's about protecting women. Rubbish. It's about protecting themselves from criticism.

LonginesPrime · 25/11/2021 21:10

"We're looking at how we can be a positive impact on the world, instead of a negative one," Jack Constantine told the BBC.

Well, by coming off of social media, Lush has made the world a safer place.

PrawnStars · 25/11/2021 21:20

Why this company can't just stick to flogging bath bombs I'll never know

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 25/11/2021 23:17

I said this on another thread.

The breast-binder incident was not a Lush HQ decision, but from what I can tell, the decision of a manager at one store. But the ramifications will have affected the whole chain's reputation and prospective sales this Christmas, beyond that store.

I think it's very likely that HQ have had a wakeup call about the potential for further reputational damage to the brand, as a consequence of social media posts from individual stores. They have nearly 1000 stores across the world, and they cannot possibly premoderate the posts of every single store manager, especially when stores like Paddington had active accounts on three social media platforms at the same time.

Much easier to just axe it all, and confine their social media presence to centralised accounts for the entire chain, run by staff who won't go off-message.

CheeseMmmm · 26/11/2021 00:48

Lol and FFS at lush.

Good publicity though. We CARE about online harms. Withdrawn from all social media!

Oh but still on Twitter.

Wow that really is a huge message! What a brave and progressive stance Confused

It's a bit in your face fuck you. To do that binders thing. Get inordinate amount of shit about a variety of very obvious problems. To mainly those in the group they are suddenly keen to protect...

And it's obvious bollocks.

SM is obviously v v important in advertising, interest etc etc. If marketing at the group they are it's just a given. (Oh well they've 'just' got Twitter...).

And concern about online harms if they were posting pics of bath bombs.. New mango foot enhancer! Etc etc.

Then clearly they would be doing this for nothing because when it comes to online harms, adverts for eyebrow balm are really not the problem....

Also announcing that you are worried about online harm... Surely many will immediately think. What have you been doing that's iffy then eh?

TheWeeDonkey · 26/11/2021 06:55

Well I when you have an absolute idiot running your SM then yes it can be very financially harmful. Much more so than say breast binders on a young growing body. Like PP have said why can't they stick to selling overpriced bath bombs?
