Hi I know that this is a very specific question so appreciate I may not get any answers. If I was to need to take maternity leave whilst following the UK PQiP training to become a Probation Officer, as the training is one day a week University work 4 days office based could I keep doing the university part of the training whilst on maternity leave and just extended the practical side or would my whole course have to be passed?

Hey! I have been a PSO for 2 years and just been accepted onto the pqip and nobody seems to know the answer to this question!
Following hoping someone out there does! Xx

Hey! I have just seen your post and I was intrigued to know if you had received a response at all? I am also joining PQIP March 7th.

BeaSian · 31/01/2022 20:00

I start on 7th March too and have asked SPO's and PTA's and nobody seems to know. Especially the PSO 15 month route which I'm on, nobody knows much about it at all. On the normal PQiP you'd pause and pick it back up on the next intake but I've only ever seen it with sickness rather than maternity leave.

Right ok, that's so strange. I did look back through my contract and didn't notice anything about maternity leave which I found a bit strange! Absence, annual leave etc was all there but nothing for mat leave. So have you been accepted for a PSO role or PQIP? Also, congratulations!! As I know the journey to get here is wild!!!

BeaSian · 31/01/2022 20:30

So I'm already a PSO, have been for a few years, I've been accepted onto the PSO progression PQiP pilot. It's a trial of a shorter programme for existing staff without degrees. It's deffo been a lot of work and jumping through hoops to get here! Congrats to you too.

The PQiP contract is word for word the same as my current contract and PO colleagues. I think the maternity part must be covered by the civil service maternity policy rather than an NPS one. Which doesn't help working out what happens if you have a baby on the PQiP as it just talks about what you're entitled to.

Anyway, good luck. Maybe I'll see you on some training in March!x

It's not one day a week uni, it's one study day a week so that's the day you'd use to do your essays etc not physically do lectures or anything.

Also you need real case examples to use for the relevant essay questions so wouldn't really work if you were on mat leave as you'd have no cases!

Also for your work based learning project at the end, it's like 8000 words and again needs case examples and would need to be signed off by your PTA

Oh I see, amazing!! I'm really hoping you're able to find out sooner rather than later how the whole maternity thing works out. Thank you so much!! You never know we may bump into one another! How exciting! Good luck on your journey and wishing you lots of luck with your pregnancy xx

So I'm in the same boat.

I started PQiP 21 month route on the 1st November and found out I was pregnant on the 4th November.

What I've been advised is that you will pause the PQiP programme when you're on maternity. The actual learning requires you to be in the office to fulfill it, so you'll need to take a break from both your PSO Role and PQiP course. How long you pause for I think might be up to you!

Sadly I will be pausing twice as chronic morning sickness means I can't fulfill the PQiP side, so I am pausing now and then again for maternity!

Hi all,

I have been accepted on to the March 7th intake, I am intrigued to how this works as my partner and I are ttc.
If you pause the programme does this mean you have to reapply or simply join another intake on return?

Thnx

NCG95 · 15/02/2022 14:12

Hi!

You will pause the programme for your maternity leave and then pick up where you left off afterwards, with whichever cohort is at the same point at the time of you going back 😊 hope this helps and fingers crossed for you!
