Just thinking.
With all of this topic so many of the arguments, context, references to historical situations etc from trans supporters is imported straight from USA.
Eg arguments citing historical segregation, the concept of anti carceral feminism. And of course using the situation for lgb and t people as all one thing where the laws etc are very different to here (we have EA and protected characteristics in law in England and Wales at least. Scotland wider I think now.. Don't know about NI sorry).
With prisons it's the same. The USA prison system is totally fucked up. Their incarceration rate for their population is massive. Prisons big part of economy in various ways. Run as businesses. Prison you work for free and that work is significant output. Huge sentences often totally different. Huge issues with racism etc.
Prisons massive and seem to be utterly brutal.
I was just reading a few links about trans inmates USA generally.
And realised that yet again it's just a totally different kettle of fish. Totally different context.
The things I read were clear it's men or women prison. That's that. So those arguing are coming from it due to the situation in male prisons. Yes they are choosing to support those males over the females. And ignoring the other males at risk.
But I can kind of get that s bit more.. Don't agree but understand.
It's totally different here. In no way same situation. Million miles apart.
So pleased about this case still. But if it's men's or women's that's that. Then it's a different fight. And much more difficult to resolve given their system.
I think this constant importing of USA stuff with no thought is really a big problem tbh.
