I wasn't sure which Feminism area to post in and my thread subject probably makes it look like I have picked the wrong on but please bear with me, I thought it best to put it in here rather than risk it being moved here anyway because it mentions sex and the oppression that is gender.
I listened the this podcast last night play.acast.com/s/intelligencesquared/cop26-howwomencansavetheplanet-withannekarpf which I found a fascinating and horrifying discussion about women and climate change.
It is a discussion with Anne Karpf who wrote the book in thread subject line - the book isn't actually about it being the role of women to save the planet, it is far deeper and is a feminist book.
Quite early on in the podcast one of the facts mentioned is that from the deaths currently directly attributed to climate change women are dying as 14times the numbers of men. Not because of anything about their biology but because of the gender roles society puts them in, this includes the expectation of women to be caring for the young, old and ill meaning they can't get away from flash floods and wildfires as fast as men can, likewise trying to climb to safety in a sari or dress or when expected to bring the cooking pots with them.
The whole whole podcast is 38 minutes long and is full of really thoughtful and well researched discussion about where geographical inequalities and gender intersect with climate change.
