And tried to get Eoin Higgins to retract his article on transphobia in the news room

@Grumpyosaurus

The Guardian, of all papers is transphobic?

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Multi-LOL

If Robert Lifton is correct, Pink News will be declared insufficiently pure and inherently transphobic next.

Lifton's 8 criteria for thought reform listed here:

It's a curious strategy the TRAs have, of turning on their allies. In the UK, only the Guardian, Independent and i paper seem to be wholeheartedly behind the trans agenda. Even the BBC is having second thoughts.

So why would you attack the Guardian? Surely the only effect that will have will be to piss them off so much that they become less sympathetic to your cause?

NecessaryScene · 06/11/2021 16:24

Surely the number of people at the G who are waking up to the toxicity of all this must be growing by the day. Imagine what the pressure to keep your mouth shut and desperatly pray no one notices you must feel like for any saine woman.

But the louder they get, the less they'll be heard. They're just going to get tuned out, like all the other screaming nutjobs.

Their Twitter bubble is currently still screaming their nuts off about that BBC cotton ceiling article and what they think is some huge cover up.

But everyone is just ignoring them now.

It will be interesting to see which happens first: alienating the forgiving "moderates" or alienating the "allies"!

He thinks Susanna Rustin is claiming trans people are bad for the planet. Wilful misreading or lack of brains?

Who knows? Helen Joyce was right about starting to "talk around" (in the sense of "talk past") the activists. I think it's a great recommendation and could make solutions somewhat easier, because if extremists are not engaging with reality, nor with the impacts of their theories on reality, perhaps we shouldn't be traipsing off track to "meet them where they are"?
Manderleyagain · 06/11/2021 17:29

I am disgusted that her email to her own union was leaked. Presumably by someone at the NUJ. Horrible.

The situation is bad, but it's good that the guardian legal department are supporting her.

Manderleyagain · 06/11/2021 17:32

He claims that members of the news room felt the place was dominated by transphobia but he doesn't quote a single one. He only quotes that scary Emily who is an activist but not a guardian writer AFAIK, and the one who wrote the Judith butler interview (not a staff writer) and says other agree but are anon. How many? What did they say? You can quote them while keeping it anon.

Abhannmor · 06/11/2021 20:24

He sounds a bit unstable to be honest ?

This, too. Unions are one of the potential casualties of this reality-denying chaos (along with legacy political parties, legacy media, institutions... the kids and their cool uncles are corrupting and smashing things that could and should still be of use to ordinary people! Sad
toofer · 06/11/2021 21:14

Who is this Highins person? Sorry if I missed this above, but have never heard of him. If he works for the Guardian, in what capacity?

And why is he so angry? Is he trans? What is his beef in all this?

ArabellaScott · 06/11/2021 21:16

Gun pics again. What a gangster. Presumably compensating for something.

Third time's the charm.

Here's background on Higgins from "pissedwitch" on Ovarit

This guy, Eoin Higgins, was the main person on twitter who disseminated the false narrative that the WiSpa incident was a transphobic hoax. That narrative was later picked up by Salon, The Guardian, and other media outlets, but Higgins was the one who spread that lie first and most widely.

If that weren't bad enough, Higgins was also the main person on twitter who spread the narrative that the Guardian (which blatantly LIED about the WiSpa facts numerous times) was in fact "transphobic" and had engaged in "censorship" for editing the Judith Butler interview they did last month. For those who don't remember, the author of the interview with Butler, Jules Gleeson, originally had a question to Butler about the 'transphobic hoax' at the WiSpa. It was in response to this question with its flawed premise that Butler compared GCs to fascists. Right after the Butler interview came out, an arrest was made in the WiSpa case, and so the Guardian contacted Gleeson about editing the original question to reflect the actual facts in the WiSpa case, rather than spreading a debunked lie. Gleeson refused to edit the question or add a note reflecting the fact that the WiSpa case was NOT a hoax, so the Guardian had no choice but to remove both the question and the answer from Butler. (A decision that many GCs in fact opposed, because they wanted the world to see how insane Butler's comments were.) But Higgins and others immediately pointed to this editorial decision as "transphobic censorship," even though Gleeson was the one who opted against a correction to the facts -- probably because Gleeson (a [transwoman]) didn't want people knowing about the very inconvenient WiSpa case. Higgins was the one who published an interview with Gleeson making the allegation that the Guardian's editorial decision to remove the question and answer was rooted in "transphobia."

ArabellaScott · 06/11/2021 21:49

Gosh.

merrymouse · 06/11/2021 21:54

So who are we supposed to be supporting in this particular argument? Anyone?
Susanna Rustin.

Didn't Gleeson try to/ suggest keeping the Butler answer to the question about the Wi Spa but change the question (in the Guardian piece) ? Just... fantastic journalistic skills on show there.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/11/2021 12:31

The trouble is that, tempted as I am to just watch them knock 7 bells out of each other, there's also a decent, principled writer - Susanna Rustin - caught up in this, so regretfully I'm going to put down the popcorn and call upon the UK Guardian to do their fucking job and back up their journalists.

Well said. Susanna is great.
