Green party again

Just got a message from the greens:

"For some time now the Party has been wrestling with questions about its governance structure and how best this can be structured to meet the needs of the Party.
As you may be aware a number of motions have come to conference over the years to look at this issue – most recently the extraordinary conference that took place earlier this year in May. Unfortunately, not enough members attend this online conference, for us to reach the quoracy requirements of 300 members, so the issues surrounding our constitution remain unresolved."

If they can't manage to round up 300 members for their online conference, seems like people from this board who joined just to try to elect Sharah Ali might be able to punch above our weight in effecting change?

Has anyone already got a breakdown of what needs doing?

Apologies if this is already part of another thread that I just missed.

I joined the GP only in order to vote. I actually think they're a bunch of clowns who couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery. I heard nothing about this online conference. And I've come to realise I don't get half the communications I should get. Whether this is by design or not, I can't say. But they do seem to be very disorganised. Whatever, I am not staying.

TrainedByDinosaurs · 05/11/2021 22:21

The less than 300 members at conference struck me too, no wonder some bat shit policies have got through in the past.

I got that email as well but what I receive is very random

ElectricCarbonara · 05/11/2021 23:17

Really?

That's not an extraordinary conference.

That's a completely predictable lack of interest in a party imploding towards sex denialist oblivion.

Next on the rocks is WEP, followed closely behind, inexorably drawn into those treacherous waters is the Liberal Democrats.

Labour has been sighted out there holed and drifting in with an embarrassing array of discarded lifeboats unable to work out what to do with an oar.

It's quite entertaining.

They are in power in Scotland th3 Green Party

In collusion with snp.

2 ministers.

Fuck knows how.

Cattenberg · 05/11/2021 23:43

I’m still a member and got that email too.

They have always relied heavily on enthusiastic amateurs. I remember an email update during the green surge which went something like “Our party has now grown to [number to be filled in just before I send it] members”.

Also, allowing the members to come up with policies collectively has resulted in some which would never work. Sometimes, we really need input from experts.

Because a lot of people still think they are focused on the environment and science of climate change, because they are a protest vote, because proportional representation. They got 8% of the vote for regional (list) seats so got 8 MSP - enough to take the minority SNP government into a majority.

Not one of the MSP's was voted for directly. They all came off the list which means they were chosen by the party. They also failed to mention anything to do with gender ideology in their campaigning and virtual hustings made it easy for organisers to block questions.

WarriorN · 06/11/2021 08:04

The way their party is structured and how the conferences and voting works is unbelievably complicated and difficult to navigate.

They also have conferences with votes in them that few can join due to work and family commitments.

Rightsraptor · 06/11/2021 08:14

I've been looking out for the email OP said she'd just received last night: I still haven't got it. Definitely resigning my membership by the end of the year and joining the SDP. See if that small party is up to much.

MidCenturyClegs · 06/11/2021 08:57

I think a few is us wrote last May about the small number of voters attending that conference - the negative for women on that was that TRAs mobilised and probably 150 of those who did attend just joined to vote in self-ID and throw out Shahrar's motion to withdraw support from GenderGP and others. I was angry at posters here decrying the failure of the Green Party here when if 50 women had joined and voted in that conference we would have blocked self-ID/TWAW. I think those policies are now in place for 3 years.
If you are a member can I implore you to please stay? Shahrar's motion to boot out Stonewall has not yet been tabled (some dodgy stuff happened there allegedly).
The Greens ARE disorganised and chaotic - totally agree with that - we can use that small voting audience to women's benefit.

On the email - mine came through - perhaps check your Junk folder?

If you joined but have had no communication have a look at Stuart Campbell (Wings Over Scotland) experience and try and find out if the same has happened to you. wingsoverscotland.com/not-so-pretty-greens/

I joined before the vote that mid century mentioned, to vote, and have stayed and will be staying.

The GP will be the party many young people will join in the next few years. So it needs sorting out.
