We have had some discussions on this board about prostitution. I am massively against the legalisation of this for all the reasons related to the exploitation of women.

I thought this research about the impact on the buyers was interesting. It is a small study but it dispels the myth that men buying sex are frustrated nice guys. They seem to be more likely to commit sexually aggressive acts.

I think that countries where prostitution is legal should look into this and do some quantitative studies.

If the impact is this big, buyers of sex should be put on a special register and subject to enhanced dbs checks.

You forgot the “authorities” like Dr Brooke “made a packet from selling my happy hooker story as a book, column and racy TV series starting Billie Piper” Magnanti who are then usually brought out to bolster all these “choicey choicey empowering onlyfans” claims.

Oh Margarita, where are you when we need you?

X-post, I see Margarita is already here!

I think that this research is a good first step MargaritaPie. As I stated in my first post. It does correspond to what most women here intuitively thought.

Obviously we need follow up quantitative data which is why I suggested follow up studies in the countries where prostitution was legal.

I am still completely against prostitution and think it should be illegal. But for the countries. Where is isn’t I think an initial step could be to require all men using prostitutes to register that. This would make it easier to see if they are associated with sexual assaults and domestic violence to a higher extent than normal men. And it would facilitate research.

I don’t think that we should “cancel” the only research I have seen on this topic because of the stated view of the researchers. These views were probably what made drove them to do the research in the first place.

It's an accepted part of rich young women's feminism, alongside with anyone can be a woman if they say so, to say sex work is a valid career choice. Where did they get that idea from? Have they ever met a sex worker? Talked to one? It's baffling.

I read a quote from a man the other day who said trafficked women should have to wear a sign around their neck to make it easier for the buyer. Another who said he tries to only rape trafficked women because their lives will only get worse if they’re not earning money.

Brave, empathetic, little rapists.

Doubletoilandtrouble · 04/11/2021 07:53

naunet, that ties nicely into this study. Men who use prostitutes tend to find them “intrinsically different from other women”.

Bastards.

To me it is obvious that a man who views women as goods and services, not fellow human beings, is likely to abuse any or all women.
