The UK may be slowly turning in the right direction but the ferocity displayed in this article tells me that we're going to have a long battle ahead.

I think looking to USA while interesting is generally not helpful.

Different states have different laws etc there is no equality act type thing universally. You can in some states be not hired etc cos gay. And that context is important. Due to LGBT+ being joined. Impact on one part can be relevant much more widely.

There's also the whole Christian republican no abortion, strict gender roles etc. The reasons for banning this or that are very different.

So for me. There's plenty gone on/ going on here that's really bad and we know the full context etc. No need to look to USA where it's a whole different everything.

MimiBearrg · 30/10/2021 01:58

I am in the U.S. and it is illegal in all states to discriminate against a person for sex/gender. I am sure it is done a lot of places, businesses just better hope it can't be proven that it's discrimination.

MimiBearrg · 30/10/2021 02:04

I am very much in support of people living the way they want. I understand this argument though and it's a tough call. Boys who were born male as they grow are generally stronger than women so if they join a girls sport they have an unfair advantage because they're more powerful and different ways. And the older they get the more intense it gets.

NiceGerbil · 30/10/2021 02:19

I genuinely thought it was more complicated than that Mimi.

That discrimination due to sexuality and gender ID was not universally protected.

The video linked in the article of the child. When he was aged 3 and acting “like a girl” - his mother was investigating conversion therapy. She also says she was “really spanking” him to get him to stop acting “like a girl”. At 4 he was suicidal so she saw the light and accepted he was a girl. I wonder what will become of him when he grows up?

WarriorN · 30/10/2021 06:52

One thing I do know is that an article like that would be read here and help to solidify in some parents' minds (those who believe the ideology etc) that questioning the ideology is child abuse rather than the other way round.

Knownbyanothername · 30/10/2021 06:59

“Transing away the gay” is a thing. In some states it’s more acceptable than having a child who doesn’t conform to strict cultural gender roles. It’s desperately sad.

OldCrone · 30/10/2021 07:18

There's a link in the article to another article about one of the children mentioned.

The last time I felt this way was after my daughter, Kai, began asserting her identity at just 18 months old. Our story is similar to that of so many other families blessed to raise transgender youth. From almost the beginning, she told us who she was, fashioning her t-shirts into dresses and becoming obsessed with Disney princesses. At first I thought that she was gay, until I slowly came to the realization that God had given me a baby girl, not a boy.

An 18 month old transgender child, with the child forming their 'identity' based completely on stereotypes.

BloodinGutters · 30/10/2021 07:23

18 months??

At 18 months old my kids used to strip naked every chance they got and crawl around with the dogs woofing and wagging imaginary tails.

Knownbyanothername · 30/10/2021 07:25

It’s such a twisted logic isn’t it?
What God has given her is a human being who is dependent upon her to be brought up accepting the character they’ve been blessed with. Not to shoehorn them into some preconceived cultural stereotype. She should be utterly ashamed.

Everything about that is absurd. How exactly does an 18 month old fashion a t shirt into a dress? Doesn’t that just mean not wanting to wear trousers? And liking Disney princesses being an indication that they’re gay?? What planet is this woman on.

Yes I see quite a bit of homophobia in some parts of the trans community. Really sad.

That’s downright abuse Sad

Horrendous.

And they say we’re like the religious right Hmm There’s homophobia and God in that one.

I don't even know what to say....there are so many issues at play here!

endofagain · 30/10/2021 14:59

This has literally made me shiver. It is reminiscent of a belief in witchcraft and exorcism. Victoria Climbie came to my mind. It really isn't so different IMO, yet one is recognised as child abuse and the other is celebrated and encouraged.

It’s the lobotomy of our children’s generation. Only instead of that horror of abuse being done behind closed doors this is celebrated publicly as progressive.

Lobotomy was celebrated. It was seen as progressive.

This is no different, except that it is so much more visible (as is everything) as a result of the internet & social media.

By families? I was under the impression doctors celebrated how progressive it was for the medical profession, but not something families went around bragging they ‘needed’ done to a child.

Having a trans child, especially a very young one like the op examples, is (frequently) the new way for (some) families to feel super special and to advertise themselves as such to the world to receive applause for being so super special.

*not knocking any parents who are struggling with teens who are coming out trans from the gender woo in schools and peer groups.

PickAChew · 30/10/2021 16:48

Didn't mean to post and run. I didn't so much seek out a story from the US as Google threw it into my news feed, last night. Even if I hadn't read it (well stumbled through it, with a renewed sense of wtf with every paragraph) I'd have struggled to even begin to unpick it.

I my children school there is a male bodied girl on the girls football team. This male bodied girl has decided to be very physical with my friends daughter - female bodied girl. They are too worried to complain as they are concerned about being judged as transphobic. But this male bodied girl is in their teens, much stronger, more muscle etc. This is where ‘be kind’ has got us.

PickAChew · 30/10/2021 17:29

I have a lanky, skinny teen boy. A few inches taller than me but a couple of stone lighter. He is way stronger than I am despite being not at all athletic.

It's so unbelievably tragic and awful that this is going on publicly and being accepted and celebrated by those in authority and even doctors.

Can you imagine if this massive trans trend/takeover hadn't happened and a parent whose young boy liked dresses decided that meant they needed hormones and surgery to turn them into a girl and tried to make that happen? They'd be seen as a monster.

andyoldlabour · 30/10/2021 17:59

A 10 year old having a calendar full of business meetings?
Because that is normal for a child of 10?

MingeofDeath · 30/10/2021 19:51

These trans kids always have precocious language skills don't they. I remeber Jazz Jennings' mother saying that the first words out of Jazz's mouth were something like " I want a vagina". Absolutely amazing for a toddler!
