We’re doing the rounds of post gcse/6th form college open evenings. DD is very keen to do sociology and politics. Both subjects cover feminism and I am interested to know what kind of feminism is taught (can’t believe I actually have to query that).
How can I carefully/tactfully ask without totally embarrassing DD who errs on the side of GC but is very ‘be kind’. One place was singing the praises of their feminist society and I opened my mouth and DD gave me such a look I shut it again.
BTW It is completely up to DD where and what she studies - I wouldn’t stop her doing anything but I am personally intrigued.

My son is in year 13 doing both of those subjects. The text book they are using for sociology has a section on feminism. It feels quite outdated in that there are references to studies from years ago. I don’t think there’s much if any reference to trans issues. There’s reference to Judith Butler and intersectionality which I think is a good thing to learn about as it explains a bit about the rise of identity politics. I haven’t read it all but looked through the feminism section and didn’t see anything that made my GC hackles rise too much. DS really enjoys sociology - and politics. Again, with politics he hasn’t really looked at trans issues in the feminism topic. He’s doing AQA sociology and Edexcel politics.

It'll be taught to pass whichever exam board the college chooses. (Taught a different way they wouldn't pass )
Look at the syllabus of each colleges chosen course

You can start by teaching her not to be ashamed of feminism.
