It's an Emma Barnet episode. RRS will be on later.

In the meantime, a depressing and alarming item about women/students being spiked by injections in clubs - going out wearing denim as it's tougher to get a needle through the material. What the fucking fuck?

OP posts:
Manderleyagain · 20/10/2021 10:30

Yes and they said a mam has been arrested in Nottingham, which is the first time I've heard of anyone actually being caught.
It's horrendous.

Pterfodactyl · 20/10/2021 10:38

On now.

OP posts:
Pterfodactyl · 20/10/2021 10:43

She's being allowed to speak and is setting it all out so clearly. EB is asking probing questions, and RRS answering them very well. Interesting that EB focusing on whether RRS's stand-off was a violent one. Does women's boundaries being violated have to involve violence?

OP posts:
Pterfodactyl · 20/10/2021 10:49

EB asking why she just didn't take the group away from the university setting? She's being very devil's sdvocaty. Quite a stern tone with RRS. RRS more than holding her own.

OP posts:
EmilyDickinson · 20/10/2021 10:53

RRS is speaking about the issues really well. She’s so brave

Faffertea · 20/10/2021 10:54

This is extraordinary. RRS being allowed to speak freely and openly about the whole situation. She is awe inspiring and I can’t believe after everything that’s happened WH are finally covering this and without interruption, sighs and accusations from trans activists.

Pterfodactyl · 20/10/2021 10:55

She's brilliant. That was a passionate and moving defence of women's right to meet in peace.

OP posts:
littlbrowndog · 20/10/2021 10:56

Wow that was awesome from Raquel

She’s right. Why do women have to be brave when the universities have the policies to deal with the TRA bullies

She said they are too afraid to deal with them

littlbrowndog · 20/10/2021 10:58

100s of students threatening her.

She can’t go to her campus.

Threatened to get punched hit her throw eggs at her.

WinterTrees · 20/10/2021 10:58

I'm not near a radio just now but will catch up on RRS later. Just wanted to draw attention to a petition about the injection spiking thing. It was posted at the weekend on the petitions board, but people were dismissing the story as an urban myth.

Link to the thread. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/petitions_noticeboard/4377183-Multiple-women-and-injected-with-needles

Gastonia · 20/10/2021 10:58

EB asking why she just didn't take the group away from the university setting?
I thought that was a great question, because it gave RRS the opportunity of explaining the benefits of coming under the student union umbrella, and exactly what she was losing out on. RRS was so clear in her answers, and EB seemed to lead her through to allow her to get everything in.

severnboring · 20/10/2021 10:59

Sorry for duplicate thread!

Wow she's so clear and doesn't take any nonsense.

Great that EB shut up at the end and let RRS talk about how TRAs and uni fear/inaction have bsaically destroyed her life.

The male person on the table here - 2018 - is the male person demanding to be let in to a women's meeting on boundaries in 2020. By doing nothing the uni/SU is enabling this harassment.

LOLeater · 20/10/2021 10:59

Thank you OP: I got to the radio in time.
EB allowed Raquel to speak without interruption and the horror of her situation was made so clear. The University of Bristol has behaved cravenly here and needs to investigate why bullies have been allowed to harass and intimidate for so long.

Raquel, I don’t know if you are on Mumsnet but your courage is phenomenal. Thank you for continuing to stand up for women’s rights. I am so sorry that you have experienced such hatred.

Manderleyagain · 20/10/2021 10:59

She did really well. Emma asked good questions in the devil's advocate style when talking about the case against the students union. When she asked about the personal bullying & harrassment case against the uni raquel was allowed to talk from her own point if view and explain whats been happening to her. Balaclava clad transactivist students targeting her, and the uni does nothing. People listening will be raising an eyebrow or two.

What's happened behind the scenes at WH? This is so different. Finally allowing this all to be said.

Chamomileteaplease · 20/10/2021 11:00

Yes on the one hand, EB had a very stern tone and I thought quite unsympathetic, but on the other, she did let Raquel speak very clearly about all the details.

littlbrowndog · 20/10/2021 11:00

How is it that men still have such power over women and the university does nothing.

Why are they so afraid to stand up for women who just want to meet without men being there 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 20/10/2021 11:02

I'm sceptical.

@Gastonia

Yes it is a good question - on one the level the answer of course is 'why should they?'

Every student should be able to participate in SU stuff if not illegal. Otherwise that's clearcut discrimination.

Raquel also pointed out that there are mixed sex SU feminist and LGBT socs which she has no desire to shut down. Her group just wants to also exist and be female only. Reminds me of the Hampstead ponds...

unwashedanddazed · 20/10/2021 11:05

She was bloody magnificent! So clear and calm. What an absolute horror story. Bristol university should be cringing with embarrassment at hearing their cowardice and it's effects laid out so plainly for all to hear.

Imnobody4 · 20/10/2021 11:08

I was so pleased that Raquel was actually allowed to speak without interruption for a sustained period at the end. She was brilliant.
This is a real change in approach from the BBC.

Gastonia · 20/10/2021 11:10

Raquel also pointed out that there are mixed sex SU feminist and LGBT socs which she has no desire to shut down.
Yes, she got in so many great points. It's not often that I've heard an interview on this subject where the interviewee actually managed to cover so much ground.

LaetitiaASD · 20/10/2021 11:12

@Chamomileteaplease

Yes on the one hand, EB had a very stern tone and I thought quite unsympathetic, but on the other, she did let Raquel speak very clearly about all the details.
I do think tone is important. I think that there is a strong argument that a stern tone is entirely appropriate when - say - asking a multinational oil company boss why they repeatedly ignored safety warnings which lead of an oil spill that detroyed a hundred miles of coastline.

Asking a woman why she wants to meet with other women and doesn't want aggressive men at the woman's meeting one might argue deserves maybe a kind tone. You can still ask tough questions to try to both get to the truth and get the answers out of the interviewee, but why not ask them a bit nicer when the interviewee is not exactly evil.

EmilyDickinson · 20/10/2021 11:12

I love that she was able to say clearly that her group was meeting legally under the single sex exemption but that the university was failing to uphold the bar.

unwashedanddazed · 20/10/2021 11:12

What makes this whole shambles even more infuriating is that the law is on the side of this group of women. I doubt any of the students wanting access has a GRC, so they are legally men, and even if they did there's still exemptions to exclude them.

Maybe we should start forcefully demanding entrance to the masons or the Carrick club?
