I can't link but the DM are reporting that people are upset with Primark for calling it's new pregnancy clothing "the parenthood collection"
Angry
Jeez - how do we stop this ridiculousness?

M&S, New Look and Next all told me that they only sell maternity clothes online now, not in store. Even though I wanted maternity leggings that day and didn't want to order them online!

Sigh. We've stopped stocking this stuff, but it's named "inclusively" online. Fantastic.

Social justice achieved.

Quote from Primark in the DM link
A Primark spokesperson said: 'We believe that maternity wear shouldn't be designed to feel temporary. The new collection not only caters to expectant parents but has been carefully and considerately designed for wear post-pregnancy, so everyone can look and feel amazing at affordable prices.

But 'everyone' who is a parent is unlikely to 'feel amazing' in these clothes (though they might cause amazement if they triedGrin). The appropriate term for a collection laudably intended for longer use is obviously 'Motherhood'.

Ghostsintheshelf · 14/10/2021 14:44

I feel like this collection isn't being inclusive enough of those of us who aren't parents.

ButterflyAway · 14/10/2021 14:48

Are they stain/tear resistant and do they do a parenthood work collection? At this point in time DC are either staining or destroying my clothes and all my nice work things now look shrivelled and decrepit after a morning racing around after 3 children. I could do with some proper hardwearing but stylish clothes to see me through parenthood

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 14/10/2021 14:50

@MonsignorMirth

Is is actually maternity clothes specifically designed for bumps, or does it have some function relating to being parents?
It is a whole range, including maternity clothes but also stuff that is not female specific and can be used by both/either parent.

I can think of babywearing coats for dads, but struggle to think of anything else. Nevertheless, if there is a 'maternity' line within a larger 'parenthood' range, I am okay with that. Still annoyed that I couldn't buy any maternity clothes in store, though. I was more annoyed with M&S though. I thought that M&S would be better than that.

The local evening news picked up on this story yesterday. I commented that the appropriate term for the clothing (if as Primark state it's to go beyond maternity wear) is Motherhood.
I got my very first terf accusation.... Hmm

I though it had been legally determined that 'mother' is a gender neutral functional description? Grin it's really not our fault if transmen and 'nonbinaries' want self-exclude from it, we're perfectly happy to include them.

I agree. Why do they have to be so bigoted towards those who haven't reproduced?
Cuck00soup · 14/10/2021 16:41

You're all being mean. Assuming of course that they mean clothes for Dads made from materials that are resistant to baby sick and baby boys with a good aim?

Disgraceful. When will shops pay attention to the currently-non-baby-carrying-front-hole-bodies and make some clothes for those without a bump?

I didn’t see any dad focused clothing in that range? Unless the stretchy jeans can also be worn to accommodate an increased beer belly.

MrsFin · 14/10/2021 17:58

@ErrolTheDragon

Anyone's DP up for complaining that the 'parenthood collection' doesn't seem have anything in his size?

Now there's an idea. I wonder if I can persuade my DH?

If I buy my husband a feeding nighty from their parenting range will it make his nipples less useless? 🤔
