I used a male toilet today and I think I liked it!

Following the debate closely and attempting to be part of the solution. Got some enquiring looks from other users but that was all. Rather like this new way. No long queues for the ‘toilet for people with a wide pelvis’.

OP posts:
Sneezecakesmama · 09/10/2021 20:34

I have in the past to avoid the long queue for the ladies. Kept my eyes straight ahead though! Didn't make a habit of it though.

BornIn78 · 09/10/2021 20:38

I don’t think this is a solution at all.

My 18 year old DS would be uncomfortable if a woman came into the men’s toilet when he was using a urinal, and while he understands that his feelings of discomfort would be for completely different reasons than if the sexes were reversed, nonetheless you’ve taken away someone else’s right to use a single sex space.

I don’t think this is something to crow over.

Alicesays · 09/10/2021 20:40

Yes, I'd be very uncomfortable if a man came into the ladies loos. Yet here we are.

TooWicked · 09/10/2021 20:42

So you’re saying that in order to preserve single sex spaces, as a solution, women should start using the men’s toilets?

“See, women are fine sharing toilets with men, what’s the big deal?”.

Total own goal right there.

Mybalconyiscracking · 09/10/2021 20:42

Bleah! They all piss on the floor, no thanks!

ofwarren · 09/10/2021 20:44

Why is that a solution? Men deserve single sex spaces too, plus, theirs are vile 🤢

Not as long as there's no potty parity, they don't. Never understood why that's not really an issue in any of the several European countries I've lived in. Its not just about single-sex spaces, it's about equal provision as well.

Coatandhat · 09/10/2021 21:48

#No thank you

Total own goal. Please don’t do that, ever. We need to fight tooth and nail for female only spaces.
Icanflyhigh · 09/10/2021 22:02

FFS Really?

How is this a solution at all?

Thissucksmonkeynuts · 09/10/2021 22:03

Last time I did that was about a year ago at a tourist spot owned by Leeds Council. They'd reduced the toilet facilities and made the single accessible toilet dual purpose as women's and accessible and women's and left the men's open with several urinals and 3 cubicals.

Well yes. That's part of why these men want to be in our toilets. So we have to look at them, and think about them and give them the attention that they so crave.

GemmaRuby · 09/10/2021 22:15

I hope you’re going to come back and clarify that it was a single toilet labelled for men rather than the men’s toilets with multiple cubicles etc.

If it was a single toilet (in the style of most disabled toilets) then I think that’s okay.

If it was a shared toilet then it is not okay for you to invade a single sex space for the opposite sex.

I really hope this is a misunderstanding with your wording - I had a look at your other posts because I was convinced you must be a troll, but it seems not.

GreyhoundG1rl · 09/10/2021 22:18

I wouldn't feel any safer going into a men's toilet than I would having a man come into the ladies, tbh.
I doubt the majority of men would want this. Why did you do it? It's not part of the solution at all Confused

mineofuselessinformation · 09/10/2021 22:38

A few years back, dc2 and I went to an event (quite niche). We needed to go for a wee.
The queue for the men's loos was much shorter then the women's. Other women had joined it before us. And we did too.
The men in the queue were not troubled by it, we all went about our business and let each other get on with it. As long as you have privacy (a cubicle), I don't see the issue.🤷🏻‍♀️

The issue is that we want to keep women's loos single sex. For safety reasons. Swanning into the men's and proclaiming that there's no issue kind of undermines that.
MissCruellaDeVil · 09/10/2021 22:49

No No No, I wouldn't feel any safer going into a mens toilet than a man coming into a female only toilet. Men are entitled to their private spaces too, and by going into another sexes space is part of the problem which will lead to mixed spaces.

bluecandicane · 09/10/2021 22:49

I'm a female and I'm in the mens public loos daily cleaning them. The men don't care they just carry on and pee right next to me as I try to mop under the urinals. Some are either shy or try to be respectful and will go in the cubicles

mineofuselessinformation · 09/10/2021 22:51

@GreyhoundG1rl, you've missed my point, which was that as long as everyone has privacy, it's not a problem.
If anyone has a problem with not being able to wash their hands in a singe-sex environment, that's another issue. (And I can understand it, but OP hasn't raised it here.)
So what's your point?

I haven't missed your point at all. There are cubicles in the ladies for "privacy" also, but it's still unsafe to allow men to walk in at will and legitimately loiter there.
If we insist on using the men's, we can no longer insist on the ladies' being the sole preserve of women.

mineofuselessinformation · 09/10/2021 23:21

@GreyhoundG1rl; 'it's still unsafe to allow men to walk in at will and legitimately loiter there.'
Really? So you are tarring all men with the same brush.
No wonder we live in the world that we do.

. I'm not tarring all men with the same brush, I'm pointing out that when you let them all in, you let the ones with dubious intent in, because there's no way to tell the difference.
They don't wear convenient badges.

blublub · 09/10/2021 23:36

‘The world we live in’ Is exactly because of the inability to recognise and plan for the simple fact women are the weaker sex and do need protection. Men can rape, and as mentioned don’t come with a convenient badge to show which is which. But there’s enough of them that do, to warrant some protections being in place for women’s safety.
