Has anyone else noticed the ridiculous billboard and bus stop adverts for Google?

The slogan is "the more we know the closer we get" and the 3 i've seen so far have these in the search box:

"is it sexist to hold open doors?"
"how to use pronouns"
"what does the Q stand for in LGBTQ+?"

Saw the pronouns one the other day and resisted posting about it.

Everyone who can speak a language like English knows how to use pronouns. They learned as tiny children during the language acquisition process.

What that poster means is “how do I embrace a weird ideology in which some men’s rights for affirmation in a cosplaying pretence supersedes sex-based rights that were faught for decades ago”.

Weird. Creepy. US-big-tech indoctrination.

Women have a long and glorious history of reworking billboards, it’s a tradition that needs a boost Grin If I lived somewhere where billboards are a thing, I’d be at the forefront of the revival

Sadly this one was a digital one at a bus stop with revolving posters every minute or so. So any helpful stickers would end up covering a poster for mobile phones or something…

Yep, they have a very silicon valley cult-ish vibe. It's almost like they're trying to make the rest of the world as socially inept as them, and then provide us instruction manuals on how we're "allowed" to interact with each other.

Tesla73 · 13/10/2021 11:22

Have started seeing the new ones before vids on Youtube - most ridiculous is the lad meeting up with his mates, fist bumping and saying wagwhan followed by the google search "who can say wagwhan"

seeing as my multicultural colleagues at work have been saying it to each for years out of habit when we go over to mates we haven't seen for ages or are checking up on service in our area because its been part of pop culture for years

theres no malice or offense intended and i doubt any has ever been taken - same as matey work pals calling each other bredren - its just life in the real world and not twitter

This is a really great summary.

I read the OP thinking, the closer we get to what? 😂

Quite.

It also makes you wonder why the advertising in the first place? I don't believe there's a single person left over about 5 who hasn't heard of Google. They don't even have much in there way of serious competition either.

DaisyNGO · 13/10/2021 11:52

My guess is that google are going to take over other services and want to push their agenda first.

Tesla73 · 13/10/2021 11:55

Exactly - you can imagine DuckDuckGo or Bing advertising to try and up their profile but something very sinister about the biggest search engine/internet presence suddenly popping up everywhere telling people how to talk and trying to create issues where there aren't any

As i'd said above no one i know has ever pondered whether they are allowed to say wagwhan, bredren, gangsta etc - i don't know about anyone else here but in my life they are just a comical, light hearted way of greeting our peers, friends and colleagues - and i must point out that i am 48

OP I'm wondering if you saw these in London or another big city?

Your post made me realise I've seen something like this in London but I hate moving ads so I didn't see all of it.

Tesla73 · 13/10/2021 12:29

bit of both - have seen them in Birmingham but first saw them in Harborne/Bearwood

Ah, right.

They'll be bidding for some business in England I guess.
