Yet womens concerns "are not valid " because the charities aren't complaining, I wonder why🤔

Rhannion · 30/09/2021 12:42

Not surprised at all. The SNP are trying to shut up anyone or any organization that is critical of them. It’s sinister, undemocratic and unjustified.

littlbrowndog · 30/09/2021 12:43

Well yes

Scotland 👿😖

Beamur · 30/09/2021 12:44

Hasn't this been the case in England already for some time? Bodies in receipt of public cash are constrained from openly criticising?

Igneococcus · 30/09/2021 12:51

I can't quite get my head around it.
Would participating in the GRA consultation for example count as political activity?

For this topic, yes.

It seems that it's still OK in other areas for groups to have public money to lobby the government in opposition to govt. policy (I'm probably hopelessly out of data on this).

Babdoc · 30/09/2021 17:53

The SNP don’t even allow their own members to criticise party policy.
Covering up their ineptitude is second nature to them.
It is symptomatic of authoritarian and fascist regimes, to gag any opposition. Have you never wondered why the media in Scotland are so apparently toothless and never take Sturgeon to task for the multiple failures of her party?

ArabellaScott · 30/09/2021 18:13

I've just tried to find info on that , Babdoc, because I've heard it before.

It is forbidden for MPs to criticise the party, there's a 'gagging clause'. Not sure if that applies to members.

I think so, yes, and this is why some groups are NGOs instead of charities, although some have different 'wings' which can be political or charitable, etc, as needed.

www.gov.uk/government/publications/speaking-out-guidance-on-campaigning-and-political-activity-by-charities-cc9

'Charities can campaign to achieve their purposes. But a charity can’t:

have a political purpose, or
undertake political activity that is not relevant to the charity’s charitable purposes

Trustees must not allow the charity to be used as a vehicle for the expression of the personal or party political views of any individual trustee or staff member.

Charity trustees must carefully weigh up the possible benefits against the costs and risks in deciding whether the campaign is likely to be an effective way of furthering or supporting the charity’s purposes. They should think about what laws may apply to their proposed methods of campaigning and political activity.'

The SNP is one of the most sinister and authoritarian organisations in the UK
