I’ve looked for a thread on this and can’t see anything, but it looks quite important.

I saw this very informative thread on Twitter about the above motion - I believe the motion was passed.

I don’t know much about these things, could someone tell me what the next steps are for this motion before it is/could be adopted as Labour policy?

I know the document contained within the tweet thread is only a two page exert from a whole document, so I do not know if there were any references (or footnotes elsewhere) to be had. But it doesn’t seem that way, as surely the corresponding note would be next to the statement. There are a few things I find troubling from this motion if they are not backed up by any stats or references. Lots of bullet points regarding LGBT+ facing higher levels of discrimination (which I don’t doubt) and also LGBT+ were disproportionately effected by the pandemic?

The really troubling aspect is about conversion therapy. Again, I don’t know much about the topic, so I’m sorry if I offend anyone, but for a GNC or LGB person, could the medical route of transitioning be classed as conversion therapy? Doesn’t gender dysphoria need psychotherapy? This document seems to suggest that would be conversion therapy. Don’t young people who are about to embark on medical transition need to talk to a psychotherapist first - would this motion class that as conversion therapy? Dennis explains really valid points in the thread.

I haven’t explained this very well, but I think what I’m trying to get at is there an agreed, recognised definition of what conversion therapy is, because it’s worrying that what some may see as counselling, others see as conversion therapy and what some see as the right medical transition route, others would see as conversion therapy.

Anyway, the bullet point right at the end ensures women’s sex-based rights are launched into the ether, and Pendle CLP we’re one of the contributors!

Thank you for posting the twitter thread. I’m not a Labour Party member so was also wondering if motions like this would actually become policy. If so they have all gone mad and will need the much advertised and improved mental health services. Could someone in the party enlighten us please.

I worry, because it you weren’t aware of the current debate, or hadn’t thought through some of the points and what they could mean for others, then you may just think ‘yeah, that’s sounds all nice and inclusive, why wouldn’t I vote for that’. If there are no references, sources or statistics to back up some of these assertions, then it just does look like a back of a cig packet’ list of wants from one and only one perspective.

I agree this is important and the motion was passed. It's been overshadowed by Labour's more colourful batshittery.

Thanks for pointing people in the right direction @Jaysmith71, I posted on that one as it got more traction.
