brignews.com/2021/09/23/anti-trans-leaflets-reported-as-hate-crime-to-police-scotland-by-student-union/

At Stirling Uni, leaflets of a Gender Critical nature which have misleading information have been left around campus (and reported to Police Scotland), and Uni societies have been targeted with online abuse regarding their stance on trans-rights. A student has received death threats which has also been reported to police.

A lot of it seems to do with the Gender Reform Act, and personally I think there is some misunderstanding over what the GRA is actually about. For example transwomen using women's changing rooms or transwomen being sent to a woman's prison is nothing to do with the GRA- the Equality Act allows transwomen to use women's facilities and prisons decide on a case-by-case basis where a trans-prisoner should go. Gender Criticals do know this, right?

and there we have it that wonderful misogynist term 'hysteria' and used in connection with raped women requesting a female forensic examiner, delightful.

Clearly not only do you lack any empathy Margarita you lack the capability to understand that if TWAW then when a victim of rape requests a woman they would be presented with a TW and that is why the clarity was required.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/09/2021 14:39

Could the GCs at least try to state accurate facts instead of misleading the public

You first.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/09/2021 14:41

I'm pretty sure Margarita has been present on many threads where the issue of GRA interaction with EA has been discussed and so I'm not sure why Margarita is continuing to repeat this faux innocent nonsense.

Well i have two possible reasons but unfortunately saying either would undoubtedly get me deleted

This obsession with woman in Scotland is very odd. OP doesn't have a clue about us or our lives. Where is this interest coming from? I can't imagine being so invested in the politics of a country that I don't understand or even appear to like.

Waitwhat23 · 26/09/2021 15:52

@MargaritaPie again and again on every thread, you are reminded to actually read the Equality Act 2010, in particular the allowed single sex exemptions instead of regurgitating rhetoric from Twitter TRA's which spout (and I'm being kind here) absolute nonsense.

You are on the side of ideology which in Scottish politics voted against rape survivors being able to request a female examiner. That can never be justified.

It is very odd particularly as they seem to actively dislike Scotland and belittle Scottish people at every available opportunity.

Stickers on lampposts which said 'women won't wheesht' were investigated by Kirkcaldy Police as a hate crime.

Under the Scottish Hate Crime Bill, you run the risk of being prosecuted over discussions within your own house.

Some peaceful protests will be banned outside the Scottish Parliament.

The six words amendment was openly argued against by elected officials

Leaflets which suggest that women have human rights are declared a hate crime.

I am absolutely ashamed of my country.

Waitwhat23 · 26/09/2021 16:53

And yes, Margarita has a weird obsession with a country and a people who they clearly hold in contempt.

AbandonedCharacter · 26/09/2021 16:55

Just to be clear @MargaritaPie - do you agree with the six word amendment?

RedDogsBeg · 27/09/2021 14:07

@AbandonedCharacter

Just to be clear *@MargaritaPie* - do you agree with the six word amendment?
Would be nice to see an answer to this and if the answer is disagreement a reason why but it seems the silence is deafening, rather strange from someone so invested they went to the trouble to start a thread.
MargaritaPie · 27/09/2021 15:34

"Under the Scottish Hate Crime Bill, you run the risk of being prosecuted over discussions within your own house."

Really? You aren't doing your side any favours with exaggerations like this.

OP posts:
yourhairiswinterfire · 27/09/2021 15:50

Really?

Yes really.

They say 'hate crimes'. Stickers saying ''women won't be silenced'' are considered a ''hate crime'' in Scotland. The definition of woman is considered a ''hate crime'' to some.

Offences can now be committed even in private, an abandonment of an earlier "dwelling defence" in race hate law.

Here’s another report: news.yahoo.com/scottish-bill-criminalize-hate-speech-184012893.html

And another: thecritic.co.uk/mind-your-language-even-in-your-own-home/

Why do you do this, Margarita? You don’t know what you’re talking about, yet you continue to opine on these topics.

"Yet even with that scrutiny, concerns remain. Offences can now be committed even in private, an abandonment of an earlier "dwelling defence" in race hate law.
Even with the Scottish government's insistence that the bar for prosecution is high, there are those who still believe this is an example of interference in private and family life. Why should any government, they ask, decide what can and can't be said in the privacy of one's home?
What is the difference, though, if one intends to encourage others into action against a vulnerable section of the community, whether that encouragement is in public or in private? That's the position of the Scottish government."

Helleofabore · 27/09/2021 16:18

Still reeling after the use of the word 'hysteria' in conjunction with not only female's choice of same sex health carer but in conjunction with rape victims.

Slow clap for you OP.

Oh and then telling poster on this thread ' You aren't doing your side any favours with exaggerations like this. '.

RedDogsBeg · 27/09/2021 16:19

Why do you do this, Margarita? You don’t know what you’re talking about, yet you continue to opine on these topics.

Margarita needs to take their own advice Soph, I have corrected the relevant phrase for Margarita's benefit:

Could MargaritaPie at least try to check facts before they post.

There is a saying that applies here Margarita:

Best to keep quiet and be thought of as a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Exactly what I was going to say. OP appears to have a rather strange grudge against Scottish women, despite concurrently having scant knowledge of any of the issues we're currently living with.

@MargaritaPie

"Under the Scottish Hate Crime Bill, you run the risk of being prosecuted over discussions within your own house."

Really? You aren't doing your side any favours with exaggerations like this.

Maybe you need to take a deep breath and ingest the information you are being given.

Many of us here are very, very careful not to state a thing without there being able to proffer proof by way of government sites, gold standard research etc.

It's part of that behaviour that those who fall foul of it often begin to refer as being inundated, bullied, pushed off site.

In your specific case @MargaritaPie this isn't the first time you have got some Scottish information wrong and have queried it with women who have already widely posted on the issue. Widen your horizons, maybe!

AbandonedCharacter · 27/09/2021 17:00

@MargaritaPie glad to see you have popped back to the thread you started! Are you going to answer any of the questions? I'll repeat mine - do you agree with the six word amendment?

Waitwhat23 · 27/09/2021 19:36

@MargaritaPie

Even the most cursory search to link evidence for my statement brings up the following -

thecritic.co.uk/how-the-hate-crime-bill-defies-scottish-tradition/

'Amendments to broaden free speech protections and provide a dwelling defence shielding conversations in the home were rejected.'

www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-56364821

'Yet even with that scrutiny, concerns remain. Offences can now be committed even in private, an abandonment of an earlier "dwelling defence" in race hate law.

care.org.uk/news/2020/10/prosecuted-for-what-you-say-in-your-own-home

I'm actually embarrassed for you.

And again, you are on the side of those who voted against rape survivors being able to request a female examiner (Forensic Services Medical Bill if anyone wants to check out the background of my statement). That cannot be justified
